Hi everyone... I registered earlier today...

I'm one of the utterly frightening youngsters here, who should probably be adoring Justin Timberlake or Clay Aiken or some other god awful modern act... instead I right now have Cut Glass (Without Your Love) ruining my hearing at the moment.

I'm 19 years old, located in Menlo Park, CA (near San Francisco). I made my disco discovery back in 1993 when I was going through my father's old tapes and records. I found a tape strangely labeled "mixed set"... and the rest is history... a live set my father mixed in 1981, opening with Suzi Lane's "Harmony"... and the rest is history... so y'all can blame my dad for making his daughter into a hardcore addict.

Anyway, here I am... enough about me. Let's talk music.

Truth be told, my memory of the whole thing was clouded. It wasn't an instant 'love', per se... more like it generated a certain level of intrigue, and I pursued it further with the willing help of my dad... I wasn't into 'new' stuff at the time either, my radio was tuned to the local oldies station... mind you, in 92 I was 8 years old...

and it kind of turned into an obsession once I turned 14... and started going after mp3s in '98.

Great website and I'm glad to join up. I was in midst of transferring my stacks of old disco vinyl to dvd. Blast from the past ! I started listening to disco way back in 72/73 on 45's! Then on to LP's and 12"'s. Really love the Munich /Euro sound. Have a lot of obscure vinyl and will be happy to send anyone a dvd of anything rare I have- but 25 year old turntable finally died this week. looking for a replacement. --

I got interested in Disco when I was around 11 or 12 because I listened to the mainstream stuff at parties I went as a kid. In my house we had the Donna and Gloria CDs and LPs so I ended up liking them. I really became hooked on Disco by the time I was 14-15 at the end of the 20th Century lol Right now at 19 I like Disco (mainly eurodisco), Italo, Hi NRG, 80s stuff and some oldies. I do like some of the dance music today but not all of it.

well i'm very happy to see how many young people are in this forum.....i'm just 18
i have discover disco from house music that contains a lot of sample from the 70s
then the search for disco records began and i discover a real great world of music behind the mainstuff like bee gees and donna summer.
only discofunk can take me higher!

Hey everyone..

I'm a 19 year old male from Calgary, Canada.. I've been visiting this site since I was 16.. I've loved dance music all my life, but it was after listening to Chic's greatest hits that I really started getting interested in Disco.. I've gotta say it really is great to see other young people on the site!.. So far, I've contributed a few things to the disco database, and I'm looking forward to participating on the message boards!

I´ve been a sporadic visitor for the last couple of months.

In the late 70´s I played at parties and listened to a lot of Disco Music. I worked as a DJ full time -80 to -84.

Apart from "pure" disco I like most club music from the 70's to early 80's.
The dancemusic from 70´s and early 80´s still rules...

Probably I will pop you guys some questions in this forum and hopefully I will be able to answer some

Since I was a young kid, I was always drawn to disco/dance music. I loved the classical elements and synthesized melodies, but most of all, I loved the beat and tempo. My story really begins when I was 15, back in August of 2001, when I discovered P2P networks. The first songs I downloaded were the cliché disco hits. However, I soon began to branch out as I started to crave more music. R&B-style “classic” disco was first. Barry White, “Native New Yorker”, “Devil’s Gun”, “Loving Is Really My Game”, stuff like that. Then, around June 2002, I discovered discomusic.com. I began listening to the song samples posted with the records in the vault. There was one song I had seen mentioned several times before, and was pretty curious about. As soon as I heard it’s sample, I was hooked. This song really opened up an entirely new world for me. That song was none other than . . .

“YES SIR, I CAN BOOGIE”!!!!!!!!!
The fast tempo. The total disregard for lyrics. This introduced me to the world of Euro-disco, which I discovered I liked more than the kind of songs featured on the “54” soundtrack. This song led to my discovery of Cerrone, Amanda Lear, Bobby Orlando, Lime, and Boney M. Lately, however, I have returned to sampling a bit of everything.

Donna Summer: I Feel Love (I must admit that I can’t decide whether the original or the Cowley remix is better. True, Cowley did go a bit overboard on the synths during the vocal passages, but his work makes the instrumental breaks infinitely more interesting)
Divine: Shoot Your Shot
Amanda Lear: Follow Me
Chic: My Forbidden Lover
Chic: I Want Your Love
Cheri: Murphy’s Law
Timebox: Beggin’ (didn’t expect something like this, right?)
Diana Est: Tenax
Koto: Visitors
The Flirts: Calling All Boys (who knew Bobby O’s work could be so gentle and caressing?)

I have also taken up record collecting, and according to my catalog, my collection currently numbers 596 records, of which 452 are 7” singles and EPs, 112 are LPs, & 32 are 12” singles. I got so many 7 inchers from buying 2 100 record lots on ebay. It was all worth it, because now I have a copy of Steve Dahl’s anti-disco song “Do You Think I’m Disco”. I threw it in a paper bag and stuffed it under my bed, and am now saving it(and a sledge hammer) for a special occasion. Unfortunately, I do not have a record player, nor do I want to buy one. The prospect of wearing out my vinyl scares me, and I know that many of these records can be bought on CD.

The quest for Disco songs that you haven't heard will continue for many years to come-just ask any of the older folks who after 25 years+ are still discovering new gems from back in the day. Enjoy!

About a year ago, I found a promo copy of Ednah Holt & Starluv's "People Come Dance" with "lizzz kritzer" written several times on the label and sleeve at a garage sale. Only 50 cents. :)

Read with delight the Sat Jun 12, 2004 post of "shootyourshot." I'm now 45; when I was about 16, I could sneak into a club if I strutted in with a crowd, 'cause the drinking age back then was 18; and many of these joints would let anyone in who wasn't in diapers. When I was 14, I remember hearing "The Hustle" by Van McCoy; I bought the single and then the album (I've forgotten the name). My friends, "Aerosmith" and "Blue Oyster Cult" fans, were shocked to say the least. Further purchases included "Native New Yorker," "More More More," "Lovin' is Really My Game," and, of course, "I Feel Love." (Shoot, I prefer the long, album version -- I went out and bought a 200 watt amplifier and 18" bass speakers after I heard that song and I played it over and over again on that system -- it's still one of my top ten favorite bass lines)

My lifelong dream was realized when I stumbled into a position in the entertainment business (I became a bookkeeper for a nightclub and restaurant business). I moved among some of the best in the industry for ten wonderful years.

Finding DiscoMusic.Com and cyber-meeting all the people here is absolutely remarkable. I thought that all I'd left of those years of my life were very pleasant memories. This website enables me to re-live them, and make new ones.

Shootyourshot, the disco era was not the cheesy, drug-induced mayhem that its antagonists may describe. It was, instead, a time of true friendship, experimentation, musical evolution at a pace that was too fast for all but a few, and a time of innocence lost yet innocence that we'll never know again.

Hi All
Ive been visiting this site on and off for almost a year and I will continue to do so , more frequently .
I grew up during the boom in the mid 70's in Sydney Australia and grew a huge Afro to rival the best of them , thus my nickname given to me at highschool by the older boys .
By late 79 early 80 I was old enough to disco !! ...yipee .. good times ,, great music BUT my fro had to go . :cry:
I look forward to many years of reminiscing/discusing and learning with all of you here at the forum .

HI all, hate to wake up a 6 month old thread, just found this place. This morning in fact. Through google.

Name is Marc, 49yold. Originally from Montreal, Qc. Now living 20km south of it.

Started DJ'ing in 1973 at l'Index on St-Denis street. Biggest PLace I worked at was at the Disco-Lazer in the suburbs in 1977-79. 3 dance floors, 1500 persons. During THE "disco era".

Stopped for 20 years and in 2000, worked in a small pub, playing from disco to present stuff, all in all for 2 years. Ended up having to leave the city because I liked too much to powder my nose. Clean for 3 years now.

Life is good, nice to see peeps who loves music as much as I do.
