    Fool For You

One of my favorite Curtis Mayfield/Impressions songs is "Fool For You". Playing it recently I discovered, or at least I think, it's written in 3/4 time. Can someone confirm this? When I was younger I always knew the timing was "different" but I didn't dwell. I would love to find out one of the hottest r&b jams from 1968 was written in classic Waltz signature style. :D

I think it is a 3/4 song nicky. I must admit i'm not familiar with the original version but Miles Jaye covered it in 1987 and that was in 3/4.

    Hi Nick,

When I read your post, I left my chair (slowly - I'm an old fat guy, remember? ), picked up my double CD ANTHOLOGY by CURTIS MAYFIELD & THE IMPRESSIONS and listened to the song again, just to check if it is 3/4. You are right, it is a 3/4, a waltz tempo. Amazing, isn't it? Another pop composer who did lots of songs in 3/4 is BRIAN WILSON - check his song FRIENDS, for example.

    Peace,

I was playing the anthology in the car and when Fool For You came on for whatever reason after all these years it hit me that it was in 3/4 time? I started thinking what a genius Curtis Mayfield was in his music and how under appreciated by morons like me.
