Pretty scary, isn't it? The Furs singer was probably the guy who did copy Bowie most accurately. However, many bands of the gothic/post-punk British movement had Bowie-like singers, and some of them payed hommage to the Ziggy-era via covers of that material. Some names that come to mind: Peter Murphy (Bauhaus), Ian McCulloch (Echo & the Bunnymen), and the singers of The Mission and The Church.
In the 90's, I remember hearing "A girl like you" (Edwyn Collins) for the first time and thinking it was Bowie himself! :oops:
