That is SHOCKING!!!! and extremely SAD news!!!!!
Talk about a bad booking. A TV gig on "People's Court" as a homeless former disco diva --playing YOURSELF!!!!!
I must see this.
Did anyone happen to catch The People's Court today (October 30). First case was Carol Douglas vs Sharon Brown for some personal property she left at Sharon's house. A witness for Ms. Douglas was Carol Williams. The Judge (Ms. Milian) had them both sing a portion of their hits "Doctor's Orders" and "I Specialize In Love." Anyway, Carol won her case for $1200. Ms. Brown indicated Ms. Douglas has been homeless for the past three years. Apparently, Ms. Douglas' manager was trying to put a Divas show together to go on tour.

"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
This is something else, to a limey like me. Did Fonda Rae and Christie Wiltshire give evidence too??? :o
Homeless? What's going on? I have little chance of ever seeing this episode (just to see some of moving footage of the ladies, for crissakes!!!!) but it sounds like a particularly low episode.
How low can one go? Still would have wanted to see that.
This homeless thing isn't all that new as I recall reading in the New York Daily News once that Melba Moore was in a similar situation.

I'd like to see it too, but remember this shows are staged!
Don't know about the US format, but the italian one is staged and often apt to publicize people......
OK, I understand these shows might be "staged"...
BUT. lordy, lordy, how LOW must your career prospects have fallen to appear as on a TV show and tell the world you're HOMELESS!!!!"
Uh, even a pubicity whore like Angelyne might realize this is not exactly the best sort of P.R.!!!! Duh.
Well, on the good side....maybe if this catches on...I can look forward to seeing J-LOW as a homeless ex-diva who stole **** from Britney appearing on "People's Court" in 20 years with Pink as their character witness!!!!
Can't wait for that one. :P
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Marky,
the aim of publicity is creating rumours and making people interested in something. The fact that a thread began here is a good sign that the goal has been reached
Bernie and all:
This episode will air again on Monday, 8 March 2004. Check your local listing for The People's Court.
Hello Guys...What a wild post, to say the least! Sharon Brown??? That name doesn't ring a bell for me at all...
Now Carol Douglas...Wow...I loved her album "Midnight Love Affair"! I remember when Carol appeared on American Bandstand and Dick Clark had a fancy princess phone on an acrylic stand beside Carol. When she sang Doctor's Orders, Carol pretended that she was on the phone during the speaking parts: Hi honey, it's me...I went to see the doctor today cuz ever since you've been gone, I've had a pain deep down inside of me...He says there's nothing to be wrong with me...I'm just missing my man" LMAO
Now a lyric like that could "ONLY" come from the 70s!!!!
I too think that that episode on People's Court is "staged". It sounds soooo "cheesy"...I don't think we get People's Court here in the southwest nor have I seen it on a cable station...So fortunately, I won't have to see that! I prefer to remember Carol in her days with a little more class. Someone mentioned Melba Moore...I wonder what ever happened to her??? I loved the song: "The Way You Make Me Feel". I downloaded that song a few months ago and I like to play it on my computer. I wonder why Melba wasn't a bigger Top 40 artist? If I remember correctly, I don't think she even charted the Top 40...Weird...And going back to Carol...I remember we used to like to dance to her version of "Night Fever"... 8) We thought we were so cool!
Take Care All....Mario
Mario:
The People's Court is usually on the Fox or UPN Networks. Sharon Brown had the 1982 disco hit "I Specialize In Love."
Apparently she is doing gospel and concerts these daysSomeone mentioned Melba Moore...I wonder what ever happened to her???

Holy merde. It's really true (I'll admit I was skeptical). This is from the WB Network website. I could cry for poor Carol.
A DISCO DIVA WAR!
Monday, March 08, 2004 1:00 PM
Grammy nominated "First Lady of Disco" Carolyn Douglas best know for her hit "Doctor's Orders" sues disco diva Sharon Brown claiming she refused to return $3,000 worth of possessions. Judge Milian lays down the law with these two dueling disco divas on the next "People's Court", today on Rochester's WB16.
i missed the first 5 minutes of it.but i did see it today 4/8/04.then went straight to DM and new it was in the forum being told, wow.
DISCO
The word evokes not just a type of music or a kind of dance or even a style of dress.It\'s also a new social order of black and white, gay and straight, rich and poor, all hot, sweaty and, most likely, high, together.
Having missed the first few minutes of it as well, I found it rather sad that a great entertainer had to stoop to that level for publicity. That's what it was all about. How else can anyone explain those poster-sized album covers for all to see. If what was claimed really happened then I would have chalked it up to experience and walked away. Not worth it. In the grand scheme of things it was all so trivial.
