Seen this new book? And who digs Gene Chandler?

Hey y'all there is a book out called HOT STUFF A BRIEF HISTORY OF DISCO by John-Manuel Andriote in 2001 with Harper Collins. Its got some awesome pictures and is entertaining reading. Im putting this in the other section of the website too but being the dumbass that I am, forgot my password when I came to uni. Also question, I am starting to dj, and one of my favs is Gene Chandlers "Get Down". Anyone know where I can get the 12" or album more hopefully in Australia? Anyone else dig this track?

BoogieNites: In the U.K. we all loved Gene Chandler's - Get Down. It was a fairly big pop hit and was pressed on pink vinyl for the UK 12".
I'm sure there must be some copies available at GEMM. The 12" version is on 12" DISCO CLASSICS (good luck) and the song itself is on several other CDs (not sure whether or not 12" version...no details)
Try Amazon, otherwise JPC (Germany) has it on a remarkably cheap priced multi CD compilation DISCO DANCE CLASSICS which could be the 12" version as the number of tracks divided by number of CDs is small.

Gene was originally more of a 60's soul singer, didn't he do "Duke of Earl" way back when?

I love "Get Down" too, but always preffered the 7" without all those over long drum breaks - which are fine for mixing but boring on the dancefloor. "When you're number one" was the follow up LP's "Get Down" and is ok in a not quite as good as the original kinda way. I also like his version of "All About the Paper" from his 80 LP. He also did a one off soul 12" called "I'll make the Living if you make the lovin" whih was big with the purists and got a UK release on the Bluebird label.
    Leather is the way forward!

    Comment and a Question

Gene Chandler, an artist who spans the generations.

    Duke of Earl in 1962.

then in fall, 1970 he hit the top 10 with Groovy Situation.

He came back in 1978 with Get Down. I love that song and I have the LP. It is a great "make out" record (I know firsthand) as well as a dance song. I think it is best played with the lights low.

How many disco artist have careers that go back to the early sixties?

    The Tamms
    Edwin Starr

    Who else?
