I guess you mean the last song for the night, I only remember the last track I played 'cause the others varied through the years. I used to love to abruptly throw in one of this and send everyone packing' for the night.

"Good night my love", original from the 60's (forgot artist now) and I believe it was covered in the 80's too.
"I'm in the mood for love" King Pleasure
"New York, New York" Frank Sinatra
    "The party's over" Destination

"Goodnight My Love" by Jesse Belvin?? That song came out around 1956 or so. Was that the one you were talking about??

At every get-together I've been to where a D.J. is present, the last song is always "Last Dance" by Donna Summer. I do remember one time they played "That's What Friends Are For" by Dionne & Friends, but I don't think that was the very last song. I do recall Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York" being the last song played once.

If I ever had an end track it was either Heigh Ho - Disney soundtrack Snow White & 7 Dwarves or something in a similar vein. If not a whole track, then I'd just play d-d-d-d-d that's all folks from a Bugs Bunny 7". This was in my early days as a DJ, back in '69 - '72.

I remember a new manager at one of the clubs I worked insisted we jocks play things like New York, New York and other totally shite records AS PART OF OUR SETS!!!! He'd come down to Southampton from Blackpool (in the dark north west of England) and the jock there (from out of whose ass the sun truly shone) "always played 'em". This manager guy lasted 3 weeks and the venue took 6 months to recover. Who said being a DJ was fun?

Wow, this was a blast from the past as our high school dances usually ended with Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York.

Robbie , it may well be from the 50’s although I could swear there is a 7” re-make too.
The old version is off an ‘oldies’ (really old now!) compilation LP and have no idea where it is now to check, the song was a huge hit way back then and it goes like this….
    Bom,bom,Bom Bom,bom
    Good Night my love..
    It’s time to go……bom,bom,bom,bom .
    Good night my love…..

After “Peaking’ right up to the last minutes of the night my purpose was to throw in something way off and leave no doubts that the night was over, the floor reaction used to be… Ahhhhhh……..but they all came back for another ride next weekend if not sooner!
I also used “Last Dance” for a while there but every other local DJ did the same… boring, ‘New York’ was also locally over done but most local clubbers really enjoyed goofing off with this one.
My fave was “the Party’s over’ it just had the perfect lyrics to end the night.

In summer 1983 I did work as a DJ for a brief period in a club (every day around 2 months). I remember the record the house put for the ending was a "goodnight kids" song sung by a comic character in a TV promo. This promo ran every night in TV at 10 PM to send the kids to bed. So we ended with that one. :)
Some years earlier, there was a club called "Bobby Brown" which ended every night with the eponymous song by Frank Zappa. Cool! 8)
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)

I always thought Cerrone's "Music Of Life" was a good closer.

Troc used this sometimes. It's around 92 bpm, cool and soothing with the lyric..."oooooh, I believe in the music of life".

    Sounds good to me!!!
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

    Hey davno,

    WELCOME TO THE BOARD

Like Mixmachine, I used to use Destination's "The Party's Over".

    Also liked:

    Paul Jabara's "Last Dance" (they knew I wasn't kidding :P )
Gladys Knight / Pips - "It's Time to Go Now"
New Birth - "Until It's Time for You To Go" 8)

I remember the manager of my regular hours (9pm-4am) bar always wanted me to end with "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes. We used to battle because I refused to let this be a "last" song.

Not a slam, but I always thought using Donna Summer's "Last Dance" was just too obvious (and a little lame). And why were all of you all over the world playing "New York, New York"? I'm :-? .

NickNack: Why is NY,NY one of the most sung Karaoke toons? It appeals to the plebs of this world.
I saw this record used by other DJs and it wasn't a pretty sight. When people are pissed (muy borracho, barely standing) this is the type of record that they could fall over to AND sing to. It was (is) a real rabble rouser that appeals to all generations, unfortunately.

    I never understood why, either.

Geez --- I don't even own a copy of this song. By any one (say, hallelujah!). If I was playing for a crowd that wanted to sing this rather than dance, it would be my one and only night in that sorry club. They don't make that much liquor! Maybe on a special party night or New Year's Eve or something. But they'd have to supply the copy. I wouldn't spend my money on it.

I'm going back a bit now but the last three tracks at Wigan Casino (Home of Northern Soul) were

Long After Tonight is all Over - Jimmy Radcliffe
Time Will Pass You By - Tobi Legend
I'm On My Way - Dean Parish

Appropriate but also Brilliant YES :D :D :D
