What year would you say made the most impact on the music today. I would say maybe '87 because New Wave was dying and house was becoming more and more commercialized and started to change its style as well.

I would say 1977. "I Feel Love" changed the way music sounded irrevocably. You can here it's influence in almost anything you hear in modern club /dance music.
