What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?
I hate when they mix disco with latin music.... Probably because I live in a latin country and I am fed up with the style. But I would choose ANOTHER CHA CHA - SANTA ESMERALDA and 12" DOMINO DANCING - PET SHOP BOYS which is not excessively latin and has a great melody.
It doesn't get any more Latin than "No Nos Pararan" by La Charanga 76.

Man, so many... but I can think of an early fave:
"I Wish" by Stevie Wonder. That subtle latin-keyboard flavor just knocks me out. Check out "Another Cha-Cha" --- same rhythm.
I got some true latin songs with the disco stamp :D :
"La Bamba" by Antonia Rodriguez. Traditional song from Mexico.
"El Condor Pasa" by Back In Time. Traditional song from Peru. Paul Simon from Simon&Garfunkel put the lyrics.
"Brazil" by The Ritchie Family. Traditional song from Brazil composed by the Brazilian Ary Barroso.
"I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango)" by Grace Jones. Composed by Astor Piazzolla. Astor Piazzolla means tango and tango means Astor Piazzolla. He's from Argentina.
Two Man Sound "Que Tal Ameica", while not my all time favourite disco song, is a very successfull combintion of the 2 genres - especially as they were from Belguim
Though a little cheesy, I also like the instrumental of Azoto "San Salvador" with it's long flanged percussion breaks. Again another Euro production.
I've never come across much great disco music on any Brazilian or South American labels. In thoery you'd think there might be some killer jazzy latin disco on local labels from the late 70's - but if it exists I've never found it. The closest is maybe Charanga 76, but they were on a US Label.
Leather is the way forward!
Got a few titles here that have been raising hell for 2 decades and still show no mercy:
Joe Cuba: Joe Cuba's Latin Hustle - jazzy yet total driving disco by seasoned latin bandleader
Jobell & Orchestra de Salsa - an early billboard disco chart entry, half disco half salsa, very hot, not for beginners
Laso: Another Star - watch out for the volume with that sax
Fajardo 76: C'Mon Baby Do The Latin Hustle - midtempo chugger with a cool vocal, now spinned by breakbeat djs
but my vote for the most latin goes for :
Jimmy Sabater: To Be With You. Absolute dynamite.
I like these songs....
Van McCoy - Soul Cha Cha
La Flavour - Mandolay
Dr. Buzzards Original Savannah Band - Cherchez LaFemme/Se Se Bon
Jobell is a hot track indeed!!Originally Written by JussiK
What label is this Joe Cuba on?
Is Fajardo 76 the same song as Eddie Drennon?
Leather is the way forward!
Some disco tracks that I like & think have a latin influence are 'Dont make Me Wait' - Patti Brooks, 'Easy Come Easy Go' - Odyssey, 'Rough Diamond' - Madleen Kane & 'Cafe' - DD Sound. Oh & possibly 'Gypsy Lady'- Linda Clifford & 'Eldorado' - Voyage. I also like that Azoto track that Leatherman mentioned; notice your description of the 'flanged' bit is the same as the description on Disco Spectrum 2.
...ya gotta beat the street......
The Joe Cuba's single was published in 1975 on Tico.Originally Written by Leatherman
Fajardo isn't the same song as E.Drennon: i posted a little review of this single in the Disco Records A-Z section, check there.
Joe Cuba's Latin Hustle is on his La Cocinando La Salsa album, produced by Louie Ramirez.
Here's a few I enjoyed, hope they're latin enough:
Any excuse to mention again:
MSO - Columbia ( gives this grumpy old cynic a true feeling of joie de vive)
Willie Colon - Set Fire To Me (ditto above, but slightly less)
Blue Rondo A La Turk - Me and Mr. Sanchez instr. (ditto #1; the dog's bollocks of a record)
Joe Bataan - La Botella ( ditto #2; this is what first turned me on to Salsa/Latin. Just love the repeated horn stabs and the effervescent sax playing)
George Duke - Brazilian Love Affair ( ditto #1; quite a diversion for him at the time.....a brilliant dance track)
"Batuca" Tito Puente
"Salsa " Luis Ramirez
"San Valentine" Barrabas
"Besame Mucho" Saxton Kari and the TK orchestra
"Bandolero" Juan Carlos Calderon
"Porto Rico" Pinkies
"Corazon" Carol King
"Sunny" Yambu
Rice and Beans Orchestra stuff
with Brazilian sound.
"Watusi Strut" Deodato
"Brasilia Carnaval" Peter Popper's Soundkapelle
"Ritmo Tropical" Chocolats
"Hot Hot Hot" Arrow
And so many others......
in the 80's "Freestyle" was full of latin influences, like Nancy Martinez and so many other young artist.
"Chulo" and "Un Largo Weekend" by the Sal Disco Orch.
Wish I could find more from these folks...
Yep I agree, same goes for today's house music... Latin rhythms are over-done and for the most part, boring... with a few exceptions of course!Originally Written by Paulo
Azoto - San Salvador :D being one of them
Womb Prayer!
If I should loose you
&
Laura
are two AWESOME songs that I just LOVE
on my
LOUIE RAMIREZ "A different side of Black"

I love the vibes. It reminds me of the Salsoul Orchestra which I also love.
I wish I had more stuff like this....
Hi everybody !
Laso : Laso square
Mike Theodore Orchestra: the bull
KAY GEES : Latican funk
Chicago : Street player
Bill Summers : Feel the heat
Simbora Orchestra : Simbora
Santa Esmeralda feat. Leroy Gomez : Black pot
