    Kylie says back to basics

The Queen has spoken and the message was delivered in the new issue of the ID magazine. According to the Kylie house is dead or in pretty poor shape right now. She guides us foward and tells that we need to go back to the basic concept of the Mirror Ball and a Flashing Floor.

You gurus of the night, do explain what this means.

Sounds like Kylie is thinkin' "Saturday Night Fever" --mirrored disco balls and a flashing floor--Travolta doin' the hustle with Karen Lynn Gorney.

    Get the picture?

    Yes, we see.

House is in bad shape????
Obviously Kylie's been listening to all the wrong records.
It's never been better if you ask me (but I suppose she wouldn't do that :( )

    Big sister Kylie has spoken!

Oh she did say so? I really think I should read more papers :P

Well, I agree. If not the music as genre is dead, the way parties are thrown may very well be. I mean look at the clubs! Where is the wow and what is it all about? Could things be differently? I remember seeing some top djs (à'la Cox) commenting this as well.

Maybe after the zombie raves we need to invent the mirror ball again? :D

YEAH K-bee, it seems Kylie doesn't listen to true house music.

I totally agree with you, House music is great these times, and mainly electro music.

If I have her on the phone, I'll advise her to speak music with you :d

It seems Kylie isn't the only one that has returned. Last night I catched a new clip of Dannii Minoghe on TV! And she seems to keep on her sister's toes! 8)
There's a gag, anyway: a new CD compilation of Kylie's earlier hits. It's a 2 CD package!!! He he...

Someday Prince will realize his perfect dance companion would be little Kylie. They must be around the same height... :) And now that Kylie seems to have discovered how to be dirrrty... Wouldn't they be a perfect match? And he doesn't like house either.
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)

Many gay clubs in London now play electro-clash rather than house, & generally the gay clubs lead the way with trends don't they? (& Kylie is a regular at those London gay clubs).

I admire Ms.Minogue greatly for the way her career has grown to such dizzy heights in recent years. She's one of the few old Stock Aitken Waterman acts to have success 'post-SAW'; where are Hazell Dean, Dead or Alive, Rick Astley, O'Chi Brown, Brilliant or Princess now? :-?

Well I'm no expert but its basically a revival of that early 80's sound such as Human League, Shannon, Thomas Dolby & Visage but with a 21st century twist. The attitude is very rock-orientated but the music is dance-able in a pre-house way.

well to tell you the truth I feel that the genre of house has become very unoriginal. Many new tracks are remakes. For instance the 1996 In de ghetto by David Morales was redone for 2003 by 4 star clowns. Snap! was redone as well. Where's the originality in that? Not like the disco days were many of the works were original and creative. I rarely enjoy house music nower days except for the new crystal waters - my time. I enjoy the trance scene much more.

If you live in the NYC or Long Island region check out every Sunday night from 9 p.m. - 11 p.m. on 92.7 WLIR, the Island Underground with D.J. Dim and the B-Man (Brian Rosenberg) for the very best in club music!!!

I don't know how to categorize "Slow" either. Electro-pop ? They played it at my favourite club this weekend, which was dedicated to electro & downtempo beats and it blended perfectly. I dont think people realized it was Kylie.
It's a good, minimal tune that needs a dirty remix. I love that the bpm in clubs has slowed down a bit. We'll have to thank the electro revival for that.

I've read the i-D article, what Kylie meant was that she thought (with good reason) that everything had been sampled & reworked and that remixes were remixing themselves to oblivion, and probably that there wasn't much of a progression to house music any longer, except in stripping back to a tune, a simple melody. I still don't get the glitterball metaphor though. :-?

Could anyone give me examples of songs that belong to the electroclash genre from today? I'm interested in checking it out.

Kylie's new album imo is like a mixture of several styles. When I first listened to it I didn't like it at all, now that I listened to it again I find it cool, not yet very awesome like her previous album. They say her song "Still Standing" is a cover. Does anyone know who sang the original song?

BTW I also read that Sophie Ellis Bexter is now singing 80s styled songs lol Looks like she left the 70s behind lol

    Kylie says back to basics

Hi,Voyage :) ,i´m gonna give you a example of tunes that can be considered Electroclash (although i don´t agree with the Electroclash denomination,i prefer to call it simply Electro):

    Fischerspooner-Emerge
    Felix Da Housecat-Silver Scree Shower Scene/Madame Hollywoo/Cyberwhore
    The Hacker & Miss Kittin-Frank Sinatra/1982/The Beach
    Blackstrobe-Me And Madonna
    Playgroup-Number One
    Metro Area-Miura
    Vitalic-La Rock 01
    Ural 13 Diktators-Disco King
    Monosurround-Greepy Guys
    Tiga & Zyntherius-Sunglasses At Night
    Parallax Corporation-Anti Social Tendencies
    Legowelt-Disco Rout

    You should also investigate lebels like International Deejays Gigolo,Disko B,Clone,Turbo,Res-Freq,DFA,Output,Mental Groove,Physical,City Rockers,Crosstown Rebels,Kompakt,Ghostly International,Environ,etc...

This type of sound has a lot in common with stuff like Human League,Duran Duran,Yazoo,Kraftwerk,Giorgio Moroder,Patrick Cowley,Visage, even with Electro/Breakdance stuff...

Studio 74, it's a good thing you mentionned 3Emerge" by Fisherspooner". You're right on the topic cause they composed "Slow" for Kylie.

Voyage Check out Joia Records too. Their last release is a pure electroclash dancefloor killer . It's called Lockout Sessions - Cirez D - Diamond Girl.

"Slow" was composed by Emiliana Torrini & Mr Dan but Fischerspooner did make an excellent remix of "Come into my world", which was voted remix of the year at some UK Dance Music Awards.
Back to the "Body Language" album, I'm afraid it verges more on the R'n B side than electroclash, though almost every track has its fair share of tweeks & bleeps. Thankfully, it also features some really funky gems like "I feel 4 " or "Still standing".
