    Leroy Burgess

    Hello Alll
Just new to this form,my Question " Has anyone un-earthed any new Leroy Burgess related tracks". The reason i am asking this question i resently found a copy of a 12" on Gemm callled Sympho State Fever b/w You Know What I like. The a side is a pretty average late 70's disco song at best. the b side is another matter, truly a lost Burgess masterpiece.Does anyone on the form have any more info on this gem.

A friend of mine asked Leroy about this tune and he didn't even remember it. I've never heard it, but I collect Ze recordings and it's been on my wants list for a while. How much did you pay for it? The last one I saw go on eBay went for £75.

    Leroy Burgess

I paid about $25 Canadian for it.That does seem strange that Leroy didn't remember it,he seemed to recall in great detail all the sessions that he worked on.I was hoping that someone would know what session this track came out of.The info on the back of the jacket doesn't even list his name.2 have been listed on Ebay this year the first one went for $175 US and the 2nd one for 32 pounds.

So far, Symphostate is known as a UK-only 12". The credits list a Sam Burgess (tuba player, or something) on the cover, but no Leroy. I reckon it's really the Aural Exciters.

I know people who swear it's not Burgess (just because he isn't credited) but no-one else sounds like that...

Pity, I gave a copy away a few months ago and it sold on eBay for a lot of money days later. I always thought it was quite a worthless record (vaule-wise), as it's fairly easy to find.

Forrrce, I hear ya on "no one else sounds like that" Leroy has one of the most recognizeable voices in music.

Thought I'd revive this thread as I came across this track recently and really enjoyed it.

Sympho-State :You Know What I like

And, yes, that IS Leroy Burgess on vocals ( with Christine Wiltshire ).

I disagree, I think it was one of the better attempts at discofying the Peggy Lee standard.
