Today I went to Rose's Second Hand Shop in hopes of buying some all-time classic disco. Unfortunately they only had two ready-made disco cds with songs that I either owned already or don't want. What I found strange is that they claimed that they don't have the 12"inch or extended versions of all the songs that I wanted - mind you the place is known for its regular and extended versions! If I'm gonna spend more than average for a custom-made cd, its only right that I get the long versions (I refuse to buy 4 minute crappy short songs!). For some reason, I'm having hell trying to get these songs:

    1.Latin Hustle - Eddie Drennon

    2.Lust - Rinder & Lewis

    3.Woman - Barrabas

4.Don't You Want My Love - Debbie Jacobs

5.Come On Dance Dance - Saturday Night Band

    6.Blackjack - Baciotti

    7.Up Jumped The Devil - John Davis/Monster

8.Flight From Versailles - Grand Tour

9.Knights In White Satin - Giorgio Moroder

    10.Hijack - Herbie Mann

    11.Sunny - Yambu

    12.We Got Our Own Thang/Devil's Gun - C.J&Co

13.Lovin' Is Really My Game - Brainstorm

    14.Chains - Bionic Boogie

Maybe I need to fix my turntable so I can buy vinyls instead of cds because the disco hunt for cd originals or compilations is dissapointing. Any suggestions?????

I know that two songs from your list can be found on CD (another matter is if you can still find the CD's...):

Rinder & Lewis' track "Seven deadly sins/Lust" can be found in a 6m44s version on the 1999 double CD "Disco Blueprints".

Bionic Boogie's "Chains" can be found in a 5m57s version on the 1995 CD "Discotech - the best of Gregg Diamond". I believe this was a UK release.

Having the ability to play vinyl is definitely worth it, and if you hook it up to your computer through (for instance) Easy CD Creator, you can make your own CD's!

    Good luck.

    Hey Delight.

Hijack can be found on a cd compilation called "Let There Be Drums." It's length on that cd is 5 minutes 17 seconds. The cd is mostly an average light rock cd. A few other songs are "Frankenstein" and "Dream Weaver."

As for Loving is Really My Game, all I see is the album version on a couple of cds. If you find an extended version on cd, share that with me. I consider that song one of the finest examples of disco music at it's best.

The full-length version of "Lovin' is Really My Game" is avaliable on an Australian CD called "Mirror Ball Classics." It's an awesome 2-CD set that also includes other rarities (to CD) like "Fly Too High" by Janis Ian and "Have a Cigar" by Rosebud.

But good luck finding the full-length version of "Don't You Want My Love." That's a classic I've been seeking for quite some time too. Thank the electronics gods for CD burners!

I was interested in buying the "Disco Tech" CD by Gregg Diamond. But I saw someone wrote this review about the sound. Here it is:

<<Another scam!!!! DO NOT BUY THIS!

While the music itself is great 70's disco pop with some big hits, the quality of this CD is TERRIBLE!. It is not remastered or actually digital but simply a CD made from VINYL RECORDS. On all tracks you can hear the needle crackle and pop and all high frequency passages as well as loud portions of each track are DISTORTED due to the poor sound source. I bought this CD assuming it would be up to the standards one should expect from manufacturers these days but was THOROUGHLY TRICKED. What a waste!!! >>

My question: Is the sound really that bad? I did want to pick up this CD. Thanks for any expert opinions!

I have this cd and yes, it's obvious that they made this from vinyl. I would still recommend it because the music on it is very good and sound quality wise on a scale from 1 to ten, it's a 6.

    Hi!

I'm wondering if you found the Mirror Ball Classics CD? I could only find it on Ebay and it's being sold by User ID down-under-discs in Australia.

Yep, that's who I bought it from. And the service was excellent! Have to admit I don't recall how much I paid for it (I bought it about a year ago, I think), but it's a great CD--worth whatever it was I paid!

"Mirror Ball Classics" is a very nice 2 CD set from 1999. I featured this CD heavily on the site in '99 after speaking with the label owner who sent me a copy. It is now out-of-print and very hard to find since it was only licensed for Australia and New Zealand. Here's the info from my database:

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I will continue my hunt with the info you gave me. Its too bad that the MIRROR BALL cd is only available in Australia and New Zealand because it has some other hits (Love Attack -Ferrara/ Harmony - Suzi Lane) that I want.

    Hustle Baby and Paul--

It seems that the CD is offered fairly regularly in eBay auctions by seller down-under-discs (make sure you include the hyphens). Just do an occasional search by seller name or by the phrase "mirror ball classics," but make sure you choose the "search title and description" option since he doesn't list it by title, but usually as something like "80s Laid Back Deodato".

Sure, you'll pay a little more for shipping from Australia, but as Bernie and I seem to agree, the CD is worth it. (And no, I'm not getting a commission from down-under-discs!)

As a vinyl lover, I think the most of your most wanted songs is available on vinyl. I agree with maarten, you could then burn a cd with the records...

the only problem is that you'll spend more money if you buy all you want.

    Thanks Jeff.

I found a cd at Tower Records called Dance! Dance! Dance!, Vol 2. It has "Lovin' Is Really My Game" but there is no info on what version or length of song this is.
