Well, I voted. Liked it then and like it now.
As many of you old timers who've been here a while know, I'm a bit of a H-Fi geek  Anyway I subscribe to Stereophile, a magazine that caters to guys and gals like me.
In their October issue I took strong exception to derogatory comments made about disco music. About a week ago I fired off an e-mail to their editorial staff responding to the comments as well as sharing my positive views about the disco culture as I view it.
OK to cut to the chase, this week they are doing an online poll with comment about disco. Though I wasn't credited (and that's ok :) ) for spurring this poll, they cite the same section I quoted in my e-mail to them. By the way, the article was about mutichannel sound. During the disco era, quadraphonic sound was the thing. Anyway, time for you enthusiast out there to put your money where your mouth is and vote. The link is below.

Well, I voted. Liked it then and like it now.
Of course I voted the same as you Discomanic. I hope the rest of you did the same 8)
Find them and destroy them!
Oh and thanks Bernie. The new subject header should generate more responses.
Find them and destroy them!
Sure did! Even with the remark I still enjoy Stereophile.Originally Written by paul

I voted too - I liked it then and love it now! :D
Can you believe someone writing "Was disco worth the vinyl that it was pressed on"????? :-?  ??????
*DISCO DELIGHT*
Voted and sure added some comments, too...:-)
No prize for guessing my vote on this pole
I voted and added comments, which you've already read!
Voted with remarks.
Different eyes see different things. Different hearts beat on different strings. But there are times for you and me when all such things agree...Rush

I put my grain of salt too, but I think this really should be Quinny's job. :)
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
I too, voted. Said something pertaining to the sad state of dance music these days. Something about the musical value of Giorgio Moroder vs. P. Diddy. Something like that. :P
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Voted --- and decided to tell Mr. Iverson what really sucks.
Excellent :D
I wonder however about Mr Quinny![]()
Find them and destroy them!
Mr. Quinny never takes part in polls, especially when Mr. Quinny doesn't know in which context the questions have been asked. Mr. Quinny is above such tittle tattle, gentlemen. This is, presumably, a magazine for Hi Fi anoraks. Perhaps the poll was asking about the quality of Disco pressings? :o
I personally don't see that 10 or so Disco nuts are gonnna save Disco from a good thrashing in that poll. The wording is pretty much biased toward the side of the Disco sucks guys, eh?
They're just trying to get you guys hot under the collar and they've succeeded.
Had I voted, it would have been.......................
I voted. :D
Too many of these old schoolers think it is acceptable to slate disco when time has proven it to be some of the most worthwhile and long lasting music from that era.
I was reading a film guide book the other day. The comment about "Thnk god It's Friday" was "This film is as moronic and boring as disco music itself" - that really annoyed me too!
Leather is the way forward!
I remember, however, about a Donna Summer fan club which also tried to tweak the results in some poll...Originally Written by QUINNY

Where are you, Q, when we need you to defend us? :)
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
Why would Q "defend us"? I seem to recall him saying that he doesn't really like disco anyway...
"Mary, Mary, quite contrary--how does your garden grow?" :P
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
I recall Mary having a lovely bush.
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?
of course i voted as well...
The reason why disco music was (and still is) criticized to this day is because it was a musical genre that, for what is was worth, didn't take itself seriously, was unpretensious, and was musically uplifting. Disco had one thing that no other musical genre had: universal appeal. After years of recordings that had to be "analyzed" instead of enjoyed, disco put that era to rest.Originally Written by Leatherman
Disco wasn't pretentious? Disco had universal appeal? Sorry, but I think you're way off beam with those comments. Personally, I think Disco is still criticized because much of it was too pretentious, too throwaway and only appealed to regular clubbers (hence the relatively few Disco records that crossed over to become major pop hits). Let's be grown up about this and realize that much of what you or I may love, would be considered garbage by your average Joe. Maybe harsh, but true.Originally Written by Robbie
Just goes to show you how ignorant unsophisticated and de classe the "average Joe" is. :P
As I've posted to this board in the past; I was attracted to early Disco music because the Rock from the early '70s was so neurotic and "cause driven" I couldn't take it any more!
By 1973 I'd had it with hippiedom, causes, idealism and all of the emotional and political baggage left over from the '60s.
If you want to find something that will encourage you to seriously contemplate suicide listen to Carly Simon's "That's The Way I've Always Heard it Should Be" for example.
People who criticise Disco have no F*CKING IDEA of what they're talking about. I loved the nightlife (still do!) and Disco was a celebration of those good times.
