Standing in the shadow of love...

If memory serves me correctly, i heard this track recently on the Cybernetic Broadcasting System. I remember the chorus being the same as the oldie: "standin' in the shadow of love" -temptations? although i don't remember if it's a complete rework. But it was definitely discofied and blew me away when I heard it. It's been in my head ever since.

    Hi,

STANDING IN THE SHADOWS OF LOVE was written by the winning songwriting team Holland-Dozier-Holland and was recorded in 1967 by THE FOUR TOPS (it was released as a single and was included on their classic album REACH OUT). The song was released in the wake of the huge success of REACH OUT I'LL BE THERE and it shows: its epic sound and lyrics are reminiscent of REACH OUT...

BARRY WHITE did a version of this song in the 70's, and I think this is the version you're looking for. But for me, THE FOUR TOPS' original version can't be matched by anyone. This song is the MOTOWN sound at the height of its musical powers.

    Peace,

    zeca azevedo :D

I’m sure there are other, but this are two versions I remember, first one is by ‘Fever’ released around ’77 on a Fantasy Label 12”, heavy bass and chorus vocals, and also by Deborah Washington off the “Anyway you want it” ’78 Ariola LP, soft vocals , shooting for but not reaching a Diana Ross sound.

There's also the medley on the Best of Amant CD:

"Reach Out I'll Be There/Standing In the Shadows of Love"

I can't remember if Ray Martinez first released this under the group Passion or his own Ray Martinez & Friends.

Rod Stewart also covered this song on his 1978 "Blondes Have More Fun" album, which also contained "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy".
