Is it cheesy to play some old classic disco in your set?

Usually if I spin on a saturday night I will throw on 2-3 old disco tunes in the middle of my set which contains alot of hard tribal house and some breaks (and some vocals). The crowd loves it . I think that as long as you don't play anything too cheesy it can work.

So what's wrong with mixing some oldies with the new (garbage)...hmm.. stuff? This is how the old music is kept alive. Also, it adds a little bit of style to your technique. I have heard records such as Under My Thumb by the Rolling Stones, Locomotion by Little Eva and Dancing in the Streets by Martha Reeves mixed with hard core disco oldies extremely well. It was also pretty common to hear the Supremes mixed with a lot of disco favorites back then. It can be tough though because these songs are kind of short.

DJJesse: Just out of interest, what classics do you play in amongst the newer stuff? That might get a few posters to this thread.

I usually sneak in some more or less hard house stuff into my (cheesy?) disco sets, like gradually work some tribal / brazilelectro breaks into Kebekelectrik's War Dance or Cellophane's Super Queen.
