Best From Artist 62 - Silver Convention

That's right, I love "Get Up And Boogie." It's so big, it's so Disco. The strings are ear candy although I think Marky and Quinny might find this too syrupy based on their reaction to "Cocomotion."

I always listen to "No No Joe" & "San Francisco hustle" one after the other (caught between El Coco "Do the cat" & URB "Dance & shake your tambourine" :P ) . They blend perfectly, and the strings in "SFH" are wonderful. They do have a very specific sound that wears out after too many listenings, but I'll go thru my Silver Convention phases regularly. I think I read in www.discomuseum.com that the original lyrics to "Fly, Robin, Fly" were "Run, rabbit, run" or something like that !

"Save Me" was their first and BEST, IMHO.

"Baby save me, save me, I am falling in love"

The beginning of Euro-disco in the US club scene? Well, one of the first--a totally new sound-in early 1975--"The Munich Sound". Propulsive/mechanical beat with silky strings

    Honorable mentions:

    "Spend The Night with Me"
"You've Got What It takes (To Please Your Woman)"
"Fly Robin Fly" (My FIRST DISCO LP PURCHASE!!!!)

Does "Lady Bump" by SC member count? Love that one, too. Oh, and "Flight To Fantasy" by another member--Linda G. Thompson.

    Paul,

One of my favorite disco acts... I was intrigued by their outfits and the way the act was promoted, just take a peak at some of their LP's and the recent Silver Convention Greatest Hits.

Vodka, I like everything you wrote about them in your post... I can't listen to their CD over and over... you have to shelve it for a good 6 months before you can go for it again.

I just love their strings, so precise and you can clearly hear them.. although most of their songs are too polished in the recording studio.. so f***ing what!

    best cuts:

    Fly, Robin, Fly
    No No Joe
    San Francisco Hustle
    Get Up And Boogie
    Play Me Like A Yo-Yo

"Save Me" without a doubt. And I mean the original lp mix, not these other versions. Two other of my fave songs have the same title or words.

    The Supremes:

I'm going down, down for the third time.
I'm going down, down for the third time.
    (Save me. Save me.)

    and Aretha Franklin:

    Save me, somebody save me.
    Save me, somebody save me.

    I bet there's more :) --- have to think.

    Hell yes! Lisa Fischer:

Ow! Uh-uh-uh oh! (Come on!) Save Me.
Boy. (Come on!) Won't you save me.

"Fly, Robin, Fly" because we wouldn't/couldn't ignore it when it first came out. This was their first in NYC.

Silver Convention, the golden girls :D .
I think Silvester Levay, responsible for the keyboards, enjoyed the piano's escapes ("Save Me", "San Francisco Hustle", "Ain't It Like A Hollywood Movie").
I like "San Francisco Hustle", "You've Got What It Takes (To Please Your Woman)" and "Spend The Night With Me" above mentioned.
I also like "Mountain Magic" (Thomas Mann is disco !!!) and "Love In A Sleeper" (Jerriy Rix sang "Disco Train" and did a little participation on "Love In A Sleeper", another railway train song).

"Spend The Night With Me" and "Save Me" would be my faves, along with the almost-but-not-really-Silver Convention cheese classic "Lady Bump" by Penny McClean.

My fave Silver Convention track is 'Dancing in the Aisles (on a 747)'. That is the title isnt it? I can't believe nobody mentioned that one as it's fabulous.

I think in UK is "Dancing in the Aisle" but you can find also like "Dancing in the Aisles" or "Dancing in the Aisles (Take Me Higher)". Strings worderfully played.

The guy who played bass on "Fly Robin Fly" wrote "Automatic Lover" (Dee D. Jackson). Gary Unwin.

    one of my favorites

I have many albums and 4 collection CDs of them. "Fly Robin Fly" was the 1st song on the 1st album I ever bought, the Ronco "Sound Explosion" collection; edited of course.
I think their "Madhouse" album was very underrated and is one of the best disco concept albums. The story notes on the back of the Canadian version make me think there could be a film based on it. I have not been in a theater in 12 years but a movie like that would get me back.
Markydefad, you said "Fly Robin Fly" was your 1st disco LP purchase. But you are from LA, so was this an import or did you mean "Save Me" album?
Marcio: You meant "Magic Mountain", not "Mountain Magic."
Some of my favorites are the entire Madhouse album, Fly Robin Fly, Get Up And Boogie, San Francisco Hustle, Telegram, Love In A Sleeper...
