    The Rumour - Olivia Newton-John (1988)

Great track written by Elton John. The Shep Pettibone remix was very popular in London clubs at the time.

Great bit of synthesised dance music - check it out!

Savin' Myself - Eria Fachin (1987) - poppy HINRG

    I Say Yeah - Secchi (1991)

    American Love - Astaire (1985)

This is a great hi-NRG track also done by Rose Laurens.

My Man Must Be American - Simone (1984)

    Dirty Talk - Klein & MBO (1980)

    Midnight Message - Ann-Margret (1980)

Action Satisfaction - Melody Stewart (1980)

    It's a War - Kano (1980)

Ai No Corrida - Chas Jankel (1980)

    Just Blue - Space (1977)

The Rose Laurens' track is awesome and still gets play on my turntable. Familiar with Astaire (Power of Love and Fire Me Up), but I never knew they also did American Love. Which version do you like better?

I'd say both versions are equally good, though I think Rose Laurens' was the more popular. As I recall, this track got a good response on the floor for years, so could maybe be considered a club classic.

    Any other HINRG favourites?

Interesting looking list, Bernie - I'm gonna check some of those tracks out.

Good to find a fellow HINRG enthusiast - it doesn't seem to get mentioned much on these boards.

Middle-to-hiNRG faves from the jolly 80's:

    Georgie Fame: SAMBA

    Tullio di Piscopo: STOP BAJON...PRIMAVERA

    Les Rita Mitsouko: MARCIA BAILA

    Matt Bianco: MATT'S MOOD

Paul Jabara: OCHO RIOS (featuring the vocal talents of the fabulous PAT AST, a Warhol Superstar who also starred as a girl-hungry warden in Tom de Simone's Women-In-Prison extravaganza REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS, opposite the 40-something punkette Wendy Williams playing a juvenile delinquent)

Azul y Negro: LA NOCHE / THE NIGHT

    Belen Thomas: HEY SURVIVOR

    Jussi,

Azul Y Negro (Black and Blue) is such a neat group. Besides "The Night" have you heard "No Tengo Tiempo" and "El Hombre Lobo?" What ever became of them?

Thanks, Jussi, for your list. Now I realize what 12" has been in my collection that I was confusing with Bebel. It's Belen. My mistake with the names but the music is still on.

I like NO TEMPO TIENGO a lot but never heard HOMBRE LOBO – that sounds interesting, perhaps the only werewolf-themed dance record? The last I heard of Azul y Negro was their ambitious 1986 concept album BABEL. The cover has a Basquiat/Haring/Goude-type image of a warrior painted with neon colors, and the electronic music by Carlos Garcia Vaso and Joaquin Montaya has futurist-exotic themes like POMPEYA, ALHAMBRA and ORIENT EXPRESS. Some of the tracks resemble Alaska Y Dinarama ( a cool mid-80’s vocal group from Madrid combining new wave, disco and flamenco elements) while others have operatic voices on top of the semi-classical arrangements.

Apart from HEY SURVIVOR which was sung in duet with a 60’s crooner whose name escapes me now, there’s another Belen Thomas cut, a similar sounding classy and melodic AIRE. Nick, do you know if there was anything else out by her ?

No, I don't and I really enjoyed 'Survivor'. I just assumed it was another 'one hit wonder' piece of music.

I'll have to remind Jim Mullen of some of his and the late Dick Morrisey's legacy, next time I see him (May 31st). Really thought they were gonna do something big in late '79 early 80 'cos everything and everyone seemed to be going for them.
