Little Sister "Youre the one" ???

Hello, sorry in advance, my english isnt the best...

2 days ago I bought a rare 12" acetate that belonged to larry levan. Its Little Sisters "You are the one" which is Sly and Family stone.

My question: Does anyone know something about this song and how long the album/12" version was??
I of course know the song, but I dont know whether this song was popular back in the days?

I try to verify whether the acetate mix is longer...
And does anybody know something about this acetate, or whether Larry used to play this song often?

I am very happy that I found this forum, and I am happy to add my opinion on some topics...
Thanks a lot and lovely greetings

I know of 2 Little Sister singles ('You're The One' and 'Somebody's Watching You'), both of which were on Stone Flower in the 'States. At least one of them made it on to Atlantic over here - there was something extra about the UK 7" that I can't quite recall - either both tracks were on one single or one of the versions was longer - something along those lines. I need to find mine to check the lengths, but I wouldn't hold your breath. :-?

There was talk of a Little Sister LP (isn't there always?) but it seems to have been just another urban myth. Maybe the masters ended up in Sly's nose!

I believe the mix that you've bought is the Tom Moulton one, which I think was included on a compilation LP but never came out as a 7-inch (there never was a 12-inch). It was also recently included on a Danny Krivit compilation. It's a great mix, but perhaps not worth the few hundred dollars you paid!

    little sister

thats just a question whether I just like to listen to a record, or to listen to, and also collect records.

I like the story behind each record.
And its simply great to own a piece of disco-history.
    but thats another cause.

    thanks

    Hi holleihozb,

    WELCOME TO THE BOARD

I see you're already in a few of the forums so I will assume you're enjoying yourself. Nice to have you --- and you come in asking about one of my favorite songs. I never knew there was a Tom Moulton mix on this. I've had the 7" for ages, since I was a teenager (scarey!).

    I hope I can find it on a compilation that's not mixed -- I hate mixed cd's.

    Enjoy!

Little Sister on Danny Krivit's "Grass Roots" comp

The Little Sister track was produced by Sly Stone and was originally released in 1970 on the Stone Flower label as a part 1/part 2 7" single (I don't think the group ever released an LP). Although it was a bit before my time in the clubs, apparently it was an early club classic (it made Brian Chin's list of '45 Earthshaking Predisco 45's" in his liner notes for the Rhino 'Disco Box'). http://www.rhino.com/features/liners/75595lin9.lasso

Stone Flower was distributed by Atlantic and when Tom Moulton was mining the Atlantic vaults for material for the compilation LP "Disco Trek" in 1975 it was one of the tracks he remixed, intending it to be included on the lp. I read somewhere that Sly Stone freaked when he heard the remix and refused to allow it to be released, much to Tom's dismay, as he had planned it to be one of the cornerstone tracks on the lp. (BTW "Disco Trek" is still a GREAT record, even without it... filled with some classic early Atlantic tracks, all remixed by TM!!!).

While the remix was never released, Tom Moulton made acetate dubs of it for a few key DJ's, including Larry Levan (as your copy is a testament to) and Danny Krivit. Danny released it for the first time on his 'Grass Roots' compilation CD in 2001, mentioning in the liner notes that that acetate was one of his prize posessions. I haven't picked up that CD yet, but I am tempted to get it for just that one remix...

From what I can gather the "Grass Roots" CD is a continuous mix, unfortunately... (no disrespect intented to Mr. Krivit - I am a big fan of some of his remixes!). Does anyone know if the vinyl version of the lp was unmixed?

Anyway, it sounds like you have a real treasure and I bet that Sly collectors as well as Levan/Garage and Tom Moulton fans would be battling over it if it were to come up on eBay... Congratulations!

This cut is also listed at #276 in the Discola-USA top 500 list , because of this listing I first track down this 7î back in í79, although I canít find it now!. :x

If this acetate is as rare as In-the -grove describes the price paid itís not bad for this ultra rare collectorís item if itís in good playing condition.

Hello, and thank you for that kind greeting!

Thanks also, for these wonderful replies!!!

Its really a very interesting copy. On the label is written:
"Larry! See if you like this version. TM"
I asked another collector, he, as well as the seller think, that this is the only copy.

Very interesting that Danny Krivit released it as well.
I will have to compare all versions I can get.
Of course I will buy the Danny Krivit CD tomorrow! 8))

But I am sure, these will be the same versions.
    Greetings!
    Stephan (Hoelli)
