Great motown medley a la Disco
Hi there,I'm just wondering what are the best disco medley's/mixes.
The only medley I've got is the HOT CLASSICS 1977-1981 medley (perfectly mixed) by Teri De Sarlo (the titles of this medley would be good).
If you can pass on some great "DISCO" ones that would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
The Whistler
P.S The Forbidden Mix series in the late 80's were excellent also

Different eyes see different things. Different hearts beat on different strings. But there are times for you and me when all such things agree...Rush
I wasn't really a big fan of megamixes, though I used to play 'Big Apple Mix '82' a lot. There was one by Mach on Remix records which I used to have, which I recall was a medley. I think it had 'Bad Girls', or 'Funkytown' in it. The b-side was a Euro loop called 'On And On' - I was told was a big Chicago record for Jesse Saunders and the like.
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?
I've been listening to an old tape on which I recorded the Disconet "Dance Classics compiled by Steve Thompson". This is, without a doubt, my favorite medley megamix, paying tribute to the early days of Disco. :D
Starts with "Let's Groove" - Archie Bell & The Drells (1975)
"Dreaming A Dream" - Crown Heights Affair (1975)
"Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel" - Tavares (1975)
"Ten Percent" - Double Exposure (1976)
"Mighty High" - Mighty Clouds Of Joy (1975)
"Down To Love Town - The Originals (1976)
"Free Man" - South Shore Commission (1975)
"Lovin' Is Really My Game" - Brainstorm (1977)
Talk about yer "CLASSICS"!!!!!
It's all beautifully mixed up to the last song which is much faster than the preceding song...so it's just tastefully edited in.
Thompson went on to remix lotsa classics in the 1980's with a Michael Barbiero. One of my faves is Talk Talk's "It's My Life" with that exquisite breakdown.
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
A bit off topic, wasn't that Steve Thompson & Barbieri kind of anthem in the eighties? I remember seeing their name a lot in the credits on the 12inches back those days.
I just got Tony Humpries medley on Westend's 17th anniversary. The medleys seem to be quite pricy :-? . A very good and quite recent is all 70's medley My Salsoul by Dmitri from Paris, Japanese release 2001. I like that happy sound. :P
Forrce , the song used in the ‘euro loop’ is "Space invaders” by Payback (Ariola).
my favorite disco medley would have to be Disconet (DJ-Remix Service) Vol. 2, Number 2 Bonus Side 2 which contains:
DJ: Bobby DJ Guttadaro (mixed by)
The River Must Row / Gino Vannelli
Trash / Robin Gibb
Mon Amour, Mon Ami (Mel's Song) / Slide (Vocals by Rod McKuen)
Save Me, Save Me / Frankie Valli
First Come, First Serve / Rose Royce
I love this rare 12" from 1978!
Well my favorite disco medley would also be from disconet. It's Disconet Vol. 5 Program 11 Side B from '83. It contains:
AZUL Y NEGRO
"Mar De La Tranquilidad"
NORMA LEWIS
"Maybe This Time"
GAUCHO
"Dance Forever" (Extended Edit)
Hey disconetfan are those medley's from disconet really good. I never heard those before??
I have a few medley albums I like they are....
"Sportswear for the flasher"
"Hunks and Chunks" - this one is real cool because towards the end they play "Celebration" {Kool & the Gang} and they repeat a verse {echoes} and it gets faster and blends into "Whip it" {Devo} - real good.
"Summer Dance"
"1982 year in review"
"Fear medley"
"Disco break"
"Rock-it" - Good rock songs mixed together with a dance beat.
"This is a test"
"This ain't no test"
"Mother F"
"Hot disco takes"
"Energy" pt. 1 - pt. 2 - pt. 3
"Don't stop those train songs"
"Move it around"
"Lamlight"
"Twelve inches of pleasure"
"Big apple"
"Don't stop just dance"
"Don't stop jump"
"Sound of the times"
"Hot plate" vol. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
"The JDC mixer"
and a bunch of "Disconet", "Hot Tracks" to name a few.

I like the old disconet annual medleys. The medley for 1979 and 1980 are mixed well, but the songs don't last very long.
I thought Tony Humphries West End megamix was a fantastic, exiting review of the labels back catalogue (especially the more disco part 2). When I got this in 83 it was the first time I'd heard "When you Touch Me", "Lets Go Dancin", "When the Funk Hits the Fan", "Give Your Body Up" etc. Over the following years I've picked these up all of these tracks up on 12", (isn't it funny hearing the whole record of something you only know a minute of?) IMO Humphries uses the best bits of the songs and showcases them very well. The very loud Space FX are great too!![]()
