Carl bean "I was born this way" on motown is really good in both versions. Im a sucked for the rhodes break but its on both versions anyway
Hi! Those b-sides of singles, both 12 and 7 inch, tend to be left untouched. But sometimes there are good instrumental versions, some may even be better than the one containing the vocals. At least when looked at a perspective over 20 years from the disco boom.
I like these; I Need a Man without Grace Jones, and Metropolis without the Gibson Brothers, Giorgio's Rush Rush mainy without the vocals of Debbie Harry.
I'm curious to know if you have some especially outstanding instrumental verisons in mind or on your plate. Ones that you think stand on their own and not just as a dj tool. (I tryed, but couldn't find earlier discussion on this.)

'Delirium' was a welcome b-side to the appalling, drunk diva vocal on 'Feeling Good' by Francine McGee.
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?
Lady (Are You Crazy For Me) AKA Lady, Lady, Lady by The Boogie Man Orchestra works much better as an instrumental.
Ditto Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman...
THE INSTRUMENTAL FOR SYLVESTER'S (SELL MY SOUL) IS MUSCH BETER THAN THE VOCAL ONE

The instrumental version of "I Love Men" by Eartha Kitt.
In fact this song is fine because Jacques Morali added some strings.
The instrumental version of Love Is In The Air. I believe this is the Martin Stevens single (12") on Columbia.

The word evokes not just a type of music or a kind of dance or even a style of dress.It\'s also a new social order of black and white, gay and straight, rich and poor, all hot, sweaty and, most likely, high, together.
I think one of the most famous instrumentals that originally had lyrics would be "Dance, It's my life" by Midnight Powers. The flip side of This Time Baby by Jackie Moore as well as Smack Dab in the Middle by Janice McClain have instrumentals which are excellent. But, of course these songs are so outstanding they are going to sound excellent either way. Also, Smack Dab in the Middle has a longer intro for the instrum version. Bourgie Bourgie by Ashford and Simpson has lyrics with other artists I believe. Pick Me Up I'll Dance by Melba Moore has a very long instrumental on the flip thats great. Andrea True Connection's More More More on the 12" inch...also a very nice instrumental version.
