    Next Year's Movies

I saw an article where they've picked Christian Bale (yes!) to do the next Batman and Alec Baldwin to portray Halston (duh?).

Mr. Bale will probably work that black leather to death, but Alec 'mincing' around like Halston --- can't see it. (And, yes, Halston minced so don't give me those looks. )

How do you feel about the studios choices? Two thumbs up :D or are they way, waaay down :( ?

    Nick,

I think this is a great opportunity for Christian's career... he's played in a lot of movies that weren't blockbusters. I liked him in the movie AMERICAN PSYCHO hehe

I give them a thumbs up for the choice.

    Hi Nicknack

Alec.B playing Halston is totally wrong! He is too old and not suave enough. Maybe James Spader or Hugh Grant (without the accent) would do a better portrayal.

I think the Batman saga ran its time and needs to retire to the cave! However, I like Christian Bale :D he's striking with his dark hair/eyes, great cheekbones and slick bad-boy look. The first time I saw him was in Shaft (Sam Jackson) and I was like WOW!!!! He plays his bad roles to the hilt just like Colin Farrell.

Did you know that a remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is coming next month? Like we really need to see that again :o :x :o . Has anyone seen Once Upon A Time In Mexico? my man is in it - Antonio Banderas :D 8) .

    Hustlebaby,

I'd be very interested to see that movie also.... the original was the spookiest thing I ever saw... with a close #2 Exorcist.

Has there ever been anything remotely good from M. Bey...? :o The new Chainsaw is an unholy abomination, and those in the know informed me a couple of days ago that the remake of the Dawn of the Dead is even worse. So it's bad news just when horror was about to be big again. But several friends have seen KILL BILL and say it's the ultimate genre film hommage masterpiece, relentlessly stylish, ultraviolent and an artistic success in all departments plus you get to see Uma Thurman in that yellow Bruce Lee tracksuit with black stripes - now what's cooler than that apart from the brown maxi leather coat seen during the opening montage of SHAFT and the sunglasses worn by Diabolik ?

E_funk: I like Christian Bale, too. The first movie I saw him in was Reign of Fire, all dark-haired and bearded. I've actually not recognized him when he's clean-shaven.

That accent in Reign... was it real or faked? I guess I really should rent American Psycho.

Hustlebaby: You're right about Colin and those bad-boy roles. I rented Daredevil and the first thing I thought when he hit the screen... Colin can play 'demented' with the best of them :D . I'm gonna give Batman another shot. The franchise would have lasted a bit longer if they had chosen the right actors. Kilmer and Clooney added nothing to it.

I think the "Batman" franchise has run its course.

I think it was pointless to have a remake. I'll stick with the original version.

IMO, I think a movie need to stop at part 3, past that number becomes overkill. Every flick that I can think of was at its best in part 1 - Jaws, DieHard, The Terminator, Speed, Exorcist, Nightmare on Elm St, The Predator etc.... The only movie that I enjoyed at #4 is Lethal Weapon 4 - thanks to Jet Li (though I could have gone without the silliness of Chris Rock and Joe Pesci). Can someone please tell me when Hollywood is going to BURY Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers :x  :x ?!?!?!????

I can't remember who was in the last Batman? was it Arnold, Viveca Fox and Uma Thurman? How many villians are left besides King Tut? What they need to do is make a modern day movie of the Fantastic Four or Wonder Woman.

I have to agree with you. Sequels usually pale in comparison to the originals. "Terminator 2" is one the few sequels that I thought that better than the original. But I didn't like "Terminator 3".

I love the idea of "Freddy Vs. Jason". That's one pairing that works. You can't keep a good killer down. Or two.

I think that George Clooney played Batman in that one, and so the people you mentioned were also in it. That "Batman" movie is why I think the series had run its course. It was just plain awful.

Nicky, regarding the accent you referred to....Christian Bale is actually English. He was a child actor in Spielberg's "Empire Of The Sun" and later did the nasty tonedeaf Disney musical "Newsies" (some of my co-workers love that one!!!; we actually repped the writers and had Max Casella in it).

Interesting tidbit: Bale's father is now married to uber-feminist Gloria Steinem.

    Who the hell is Halston?

Sorry, probably he had another name in Spanish TV. Could you people describe the guy?

Some sequels I think are equal or better than the original:

    -Terminator 2 (better)
    -The Godfather Part 2 (equal)
    -Gremlins 2 (equal)
    -Scream 2 (probably better)
    -Aliens (equal)
    -Airplane! 2 (equal)
    -Naked Gun 2 1/2 & 33 1/3 (equal)
    -Batman returns (better)
-Indiana Jones & The Temple of doom (equal)
-Evil dead 2 & Army of darkness (both better)
    -Wayne's World 2 (equal)
-The Empire strikes back (way better)
-Trinity is still my name (better)
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)

Nano: Halston (Roy Forwick Halston) was an internationally famous designer of women's fashions who passed away recently of AIDS (I don't know the date). He was born in the US, Iowa, in the 1930's and achieved international success. There's a book (probably more than one) out there about his life and I guess Hollywood wants to do a movie.

Oh, THAT Halston???!!! I thought Halston was a character in a comic book!!!!!!!!!! DUH.

Alec Baldwin is waaaaaaaay wrong for that!!!!!.

Halston was TALL and rail thin. I'm thinking John Glover, but probably too old. Spader and Hugh Grant are good ideas.

Baldwin is rather a chubbo these days. :P

Halston was waaay into "dusky boys" so I heard. :D

The first terminator I feel is the BEST because it was the most unexpected, more dark and edgy plus Arnold was playing a bad mother f*cker! I don't mean to appear violent but that police precinct shoot-up, the opening when he ripped the guy's heart out and the 8-wheeler truck chase gave me a rush that I still feel to this day - and this was back in 1984. In part 2, Arnold was kinder and not the evil cyborg that I expected though "liquid metal" was fascinating! I didn't see part 3 yet.

Aliens is one of the few movies that improved with each sequel - each of them (4) get its props! As well as The GodFather - except for part 3 :x !!! I hated Scream and was never crazy about Indiana Jones.

Halston died of AIDS in 1991/92.

    Marky what are "dusky boys"?
