    David DeCoteau

    Hey film buffs,

Anybody have the scoop on this director? I rented the strangest DVD last week: The Brotherhood. It's not new as I saw there was also a Brotherhood II and Brotherhood III. The cover read like a group of young college students into some kind of cult or what have you. A little vampirism was implied and it seemed like my kind of film --- not too heavy on the gore and hopefully a little scarey to boot.

Well. Quelle :o ! Half-naked good-looking men running around throughout most of the film, leering at each other while molesting the ladies :-? . I always thought the ladies ran around the castle in filmy negligees when the evil monster started pursuit. :D

So, what's up with this guy? Is he trying something new in the horror genre? Either I'm crazy or those were serious homosexual overtones on display, although they never really get into anything, just a lot of naked male flesh and looking. Are his other films like this? Is he out or is he just goofing on the public, switching the 'damsel in distress' roles? As far as the movie --- lots of eye candy for straight women and gay men. Scarey --- not even. :(

Jussi, Goddess: You two are the masters. What's the deal? :D

David deCoteau has an apparently justified reputation of being a director of very-low-to-no budget direct-to-video stuff, not a maker of films meant for wide theatrical distribution. His name pops up on the pages of lighter toned fanboyish genre magazines such as Fangoria but rarely if ever in favourable light. After watching a vampire flop of his some years ago I've avoided anything with his name on it but I hear he's slightly better now, with the Brotherhood titles typical examples of his output now. Lots of mild nudity, tame bloodshed and still very little plot, that's David. Should you want a peek at a far better done, and definitely homoerotic horror film check out the new Jeepers Creepers 2 by Victor Salva, in theatres right now. Victor was responsible for "Powder", a love it or hate it sci-fi drama of spielbergian cuteness and overblown sentimentality, only with loooong shower scenes featuring trim young guys. I liked JC2 a lot and it seems to be getting lots of thumbs up from the quality horror press. I also know a genre journalist who said more than thumbs were...oh, never mind.
