"NEW" EL COCO ALBUM FOUND

This is for RINDER AND LEWIS fans:

I don't know if you guys know about this "lost" EL COCO album, but as I never heard you talking about it, here it is:

I discovered this unknown and difficult to find 1981 EL COCO album called CHEETAH. It has a white cover with a Bob Wynne drawing of a cheetah or leopard.

The album is not credited to EL COCO. Instead, Rinder & Lewis choose to call the band "CHEETAH", but there is no doubt it is really an EL COCO record. I will explain why:

The songs are:

A SIDE:
1 TOO HOT TO BE COOL
2 I'M READY

B SIDE:
1 AIN'T GONNA WASTE NO TIME NO MORE
2 NIGHT LINES

Although there are 4 new disco songs, they were built on top of known EL COCO songs: Rinder & Lewis kept the backing tracks, removed the original melody lines and then built another one on top of the same instrumental basis and arrangements.

There is a lot of overdub too, more keyboards, more of this and less of that. It is not just a remix of previous EL COCO tracks, but a complete rework of the songs... So each of the old melodies does not show up in the "new" one. But the instumental backing is the same and it is easily recognisible, in spite of all overdubs.

The band is:

PATTY FOLEY - vocals
WILLIAM MICHAEL LEWIS - bass and keyboards
LAURIN RINDER - drums and percussion
MIKE FLEETWOOD - guitar
THE RINLEW SECTION - strings and horns

The hidden identity of the songs is:

A SIDE:
1 TOO HOT TO BE COOL is LOVE EXCITER
2 I'M READY I think this is a new disco song, but maybe it could be the naked basis of SILENT LOVER from their previous 1980 album REVOLUCION.

B SIDE:
1 AIN'T GONNA WASTE NO TIME NO MORE is COCO KANE
2 NIGHT LINES is DANCE MAN

The album is really good, sounding like previous albums COCOMOTION, DANCING IN PARADISE or REVOLUCION

Pretty much El Coco is Rinder And Lewis. Also El Coco is Le Pamplamouse and Saint Tropez.

Yes I know, but there is a difference in aproach for each of this "fake" bands:

EL COCO albums sound like classic disco (longer songs + strings + synths + horns)

LE PAMPLEMOUSSE is more rough and soul oriented

SAINT TROPEZ is pop disco

TUXEDO JUNCTION is jazzy

RINDER AND LEWIS solo albums are very experimental have a weird disco sound that cannot be mistaken by EL COCO

This album I mentioned (CHEETAH) is really EL COCO because it was built upon the backing tracks of EL COCO songs.

Rinder & Lewis have other projects which recorded only one album such as: DISCOGNOSIS, IN SEARCH OF ORCHESTRA, RINLEW ALLSTARS, SWEET POTATO PIE, MIDNIGHT WIND.

For the benefit of the rest of the forum... this song uses the horn and string tracks from Dave Williams' "Come On Down, Boogie People", which was another Rinder & Lewis production. So the album is based around "recycled material".

Maybe this has been mentioned before and is old news, but I just came across this RINLEW production in my collection..

"Don't turn your back on love" 5:38 by Eloise Whitaker on Destiny Records 12" 1981, nothing out standing, your typical early 80's 'filler' sound but very different from the early 'El Coco' stuff.

This Eloise Whitaker 12 inch has the typical early 80's sound. Although a Rinlew production, it sounds different from El Coco or other projects.

But this one on the thread (Cheetah) is El Coco (although not credited to them) because it is build on top of el coco backing tracks minus the original lead lines plus a new melody.

By the way. Does anyone know or heard if there is a ELOISE WHITAKER album (not just the 12")??
