    Mystery Disco Songs

While going through some of my files I came across a partial list of Mystery Disco Songs I used to feature here on DiscoMusic.com. The list below is only from Nov of 1997 through August of 1999. If I can find the rest I will post it.

Old timers will recall that I used to feature the complete audio to an entire song and then let visitors submit their answers via a form. The Mystery Disco Song ran all the way through till last year 2002. Aah, the good ol' days...

    Re: Mystery Disco Songs

DiscoNet used to do "Mystery Song" contests, too.
Sometimes all the songs in a set. Sometimes just one track.

To revive your contest, but give only an obscure 32, or 64 beat piece to guess from, would be a fun challenge for some of us Disco-know-it-alls!

Of course, there's already a version of that on the site. It's called "ASK OTHERS TO IDENTIFY A DISCO SONG".:icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:

Ree, It had nothing to do with classic status... Back in the old days of DiscoMusic.com I would post the audio of a song for visitors to guess who the artist was. The following week I would reveal the name of the artist.

Stephen, never thought of the ID a song category that way, but it certainly is a bit of a contest and brain challenge that's for sure.

    Bernie,

I remember you also did the "Mystery Break" as well; this was before the "Mystery Song", I think. I'll never forget hearing Erotic Drum Band's "Love Disco Style" for the first time there and when you mixed every cut from Peter Jacques Band's "Fire Night Dance" album.

Yup, it all began with the Mystery Disco Break! I remember trying to upload all those audio clips on a 28.8k dial-up connection and losing the connection over and over again

Back then, did you find a compressed format to use? Or was it .wav files? Those latter ones were a pain to send through dialup, even when they were only a couple of dozen seconds long!

I used RealAudio files in mono and compressed to hell to make them upload and download as quickly as possible. Don't forget I had to digitize from vinyl, edit and then encode them all first which took some time.

Bernie, this sounds like it would have been a fun exercise. And while I realize it probably involved a lot of work for yourself, any chance of it being revived? This would be a fun thing to participate in.
