Unknowingly Norman Connors invited two great disco female singers to sing on his "Your Are My Starship" LP: Phyllis Hyman ("Dont Stop The Train" etc) and Sharon Redd ("In The Name Of Love" etc).
The "You Are My Starship" staff: Phyllis Hyman (vocalist), Sharon Redd (background vocals), Maretha Stewart (background vocals), Tasha Thomas (background vocals) and Michael Henderson (vocalist).
In the same year - 1976 - Buddah Records released "More,More,More" by Andrea True Connection.
baby yeah :D :D :D
"Baby, oh yeah - won't ya take me tonight!" - I loved that song! It was kinda like the Floaters' "Float On" - weird, but nice.
How about Norman Connors' "Once I've Been There"? I heard that one last week and boy that took me back. I don't recall exactly when it came out though, so it didn't take me too far! It was another one of those songs I really liked that I forgot about.
They may not be 'disco' vocalists, per se, although they dabbled - but let's not forget the great Dee Dee Bridgewater (from Connors' jazzier days) and the wonderful Eleanor Mills, who sadly passed away just after her comeback 12" for the reactivated West End in the early '90s. Her performance on Connors' 'Wouldn't You Like To See' takes me to heaven. Music for the soul - and then some. :D
Did Phyllis Hyman cover "Dont Stop The Train"? I have versions by Phyllis Nelson and Viola Wills, but didn't know of another...
I have to agree You Are My Starship is a smash ballad.... I've never gotten tired of it... it's simply timeless.
As far as I know, no, Phyllis Hyman did not cover Don't Stop The Train. It was recorded by both Phyllis Nelson and Viola Wills. Can't even imagine P. Hyman singing that style of song.Originally Written by Eclipse

The Pounding Drums, The Flashing Lights...
I think Marcio just got his Phyllis' mixed up. Phyllis Hyman doing "Don't Stop The Train"? Don't think so... :roll:Originally Written by Art Figueroa
I mistook the names
I'll take more care![]()
Silly Norman Conners made a big mistake not doing a version of "Don't stop the train" with Hyman when he had the chance. The more versions of that song we have the better this world would be. I'd like to hear a faster rockier version by someone like Nickleback. I also think 50 Cent could do an intersting urban take on this wonderful song!
Leather is the way forward!
I think that Westlife or Macy Gray should do 'Dont Stop The Train' also; it would take their careers to new heights, or is that depths darlings? :-?
...ya gotta beat the street......
