Hi Jim,
I'll check my charts for your info tonight and report back tomorrow.
What kind of project would you be working on? I'm curious.
I am working on a project. I need to know where and when the following tunes peaked on the Billboard Disco chart (National Top 40)
= Do Ya Wanna Get Funky With Me - Peter Brown (#3 Rnb/#18 pop)
= YMCA - Village People (#2 pop)
= Spring Rain - Silvetti (believe it or not, this did crack the top 40 pop Whether it peaked at 40 or 39 I am not sure)
= Uptown Festival - Shalamar (#25 pop; I think it went to #2 I need to confirm this)
= Heaven Must Have Sent you -Bonnie Pointer (#15 pop?)
= Heart of Glass - Blondie (#1 POP;even the AOR stations played the 12")
= Shame - Evelyn King (#10 pop)
= Let's Go Crazy/Erotic City - Prince <IMHO the BEST 12" of ALL TIME!) (#1 POP <Well Let's go Crazy hit #1 pop anyway>)
= Shake Your Body (Down To the Ground) - Jacksons (#8 pop?) (and does anyone know where the EUROPEAN remix can be obtained on CD?)
= Dazz - Brick (#1 RnB,#3 pop) (This was one of the first 7" I ever bought and it turned out the 12" version WAS on MY 45)
Thank You

I'll leave the rankings to Marky. As for the other stuff. If the european remix is the Tom Moulton stuff, there is a compilation of those remixes that is available on cd. I have the cd at home (I'm at work now). Check cdnow or amamzon.
I too was surprised and happy to get the extended version of Dazz on the '45.
Find them and destroy them!

You mean 7" as the 12" I believe aslo supun at 45 RPM.
John Luuongo did the remix of shake Your body ,and I am surprised it was not included as an extra track on the Destiny CD
or on the Club Epic series
(Dazz was on vol 4,and in the correct version as well
Yep, my goof. It is a John Luongo mix. The cd I am referring to is called "The Jacksons: The Best Remixes". Other songs on the cd are:
Blame It On The Boogie
Heartbreak Hotel
Lovely One
Can You Feel It
Torture

An "A" for you.
DO YOU WANNA GET FUNKY WITH ME - PETER BROWN
Pop: #18 10/08/77
R&B: #3 7/16/77
Disco: #9 6/04/77
A record that took a few months to crossover. Received LITTLE if ANY pop airplay in the Boston market. If I could zap back in time and redo the charts the way I would like, this would have been a #1 pop hit. It also would have been used in "SAturday Night Fever" in scenes when Anette was trying to seduce Tony

YMCA - VILLAGE PEOPLE

R&B: #10 3/26/77
Disco: #2 (4 wks) 4/02/77

The 7" single split the entire medley on two sides not too unlike the 7" of the orginal American Pie. I really like this one and wished it had gone much higher on the pop and disco charts.
HEAVEN MUST HAVE SENT YOU - BONNIE POINTER
Pop: #11 7/28/79
R&B: #52 5/12/79
Disco: #8 (2 wks.) 7/07/79
One of the first digitally recorded singles. The 7" is a Terrible edit ,well for those who are accustomed to the 12".
I DO have the FULL 12" version on CD,but I do not think it was a DDD master.
HEART OF GLASS - BLONDIE
Pop: #1 (1 wk) 3/17/79
R&B: ----------------- (did not chart)
Disco: #58 (5/05/79)
A surprise that it would peak that low. I am assuming another dance rock record ; THe Knack's My Sharona didn't even crack the Disco charts
SHAME - EVELYN "CHAMPAGNE" KING
Pop: #9 7/22/78
R&B: #7 4/29/78
Disco: #8 1/21/78
LET'S GO CRAZY/EROTIC CITY - PRINCE
Pop: #1 (2 wks) 8/11/84
R&B: #1 8/11/84
Disco/Dance: #1 (7 inch) 9/29/84
#2 (12") 10/13/84
a 7" topping the disco charts?
SHAKE YOUR BODY (DOWN TO THE GROUND) - JACKSONS
Pop: #7 3/31/79
R&B: #3 1/27/79
Disco: #20 3/24/79
DAZZ - BRICK
Pop: #3 11/20/76
R&B: #1 (4wks) 10/9/76
Disco: #7 1/15/77
Interesting. I shall be in touch about getting all the charts.

Not surprising at all. It certainly was not a disco song. Perhaps a pop song you might hear at a rock and roll bar. It would have certainly would have emptied the dance floors of all discos I know of.

In retrospect, "Heart of Glass" was a harbinger of the dance music that was to come in the next few years(i.e. ahead of it's time). I LOVED that record. But, I don't remember dancing to it until 1983 when Bobby Viteritti made a return visit to Trocadero and spun it and it fit in perfectly with David Bowie's "Let's Dance" & Stevie Nicks' "Stand Back", etc.

I considered it a dance rock tune. From what I had heard a 12" single of the LP track version was issued,at least promotionally. What could it be cured into/out of,that's another story.
The only tune that comes to mind is Peter Brown's Can't Be Love ,but that didn't come out til next year.

Thank you, Mark. Unlike you though, I always hated, and I mean HATED this song and it's so-called "New Wave" sound (i.e., "Rock"). I played it once at The Anvil. I was asked never to play it again and leave that sound to Lance, the DJ for Saturday nights. His crowd was more touristy and dealt with it better than mine.

I hear you Nicky. The few, and I mean the few times I heard it at the clubs I lost my high, my groove, etc. Fortunately I wasn't the only one. Make we wonder how it got popular as a reputed "disco" song?

I guess I'm about the only one around here ( except maybe Boodi & Outsider) who loves and listens to rock music. Therefore, I loved the Dance Rock/New Wave era. I loved it when the Rolling Stones, Kiss, the Beach Boys, Cheap Trick, and Blondie, among others, did discoish dance tunes. I remember running out and purchasing "Heart Of Glass" immediately after Blondie hosted and performed on the "Friday Midnight Special". BTW, the 12" is the same as the LP cut. I think it's CLASSIC.
Blondie & Debbie Harry are particular favorites of mine. They did soooo many great tracks before they disbanded and returned with a CD with only one great track ("Maria"), but I live in hope that they'll do more.
Am I the only one????
