"Last Dance" and Acts I and IV of "Once Upon A Time" - all by Donna Summer.
I know there are many but I was struck by the brilliant orchestration on "Feel Like I've Been Living On The Dark Side Of The Moon" by Gene Page on his Close Encounters of The Third Kind Lp.Play this tune loud with your eyes closed and he just grabs you with his brilliant use of horns and strings, tempo changes and melody.I know many of you have others that would be a favourite in this category.
Different eyes see different things. Different hearts beat on different strings. But there are times for you and me when all such things agree...Rush
"Last Dance" and Acts I and IV of "Once Upon A Time" - all by Donna Summer.
It may not be the best, but I love it...
'COCOMOTION'
...eat that!
I like the Ripple's "The Beat Goes On And On" orchestratrion on my turntable :D .
marcio
Cocomotion for sure. Can't beat that.
Consistently Sylvester and Donna Summer excelled in orchestration.
I've said it before --- "Let Me Be Your Fantasy" by Love Symphony Orchestra. The second half of this song is just wonderful.
Close second (or maybe first, depending on the day :) ) --- "Summertime" by MFSB.
Most of the Costandinos Suites (romeo and Juliet being an obvious example). I'd echo sides 1 and 4 and Last Dance by Donna Summer--all that arrnagign and much of that productionw as by Bob Esty who also did gorgeous tight work with Cher on Take Me Home

For a japanese style of orchestration:
" I'll Try Something New " by A Taste of Honey

Well I'm not totally sure of how to actually orchestration. It must have something to do with strings though
On that note, I'll have to mention the original 15 minute version of Chameleon by Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters (1973). The way the strings set in the moment Herbie starts doing his fender rhodes solo about halfway through the track, is pretty hard to beat!! :)
I think I've mentioned it b4 but i always loved the orchestration on Teena Marie's 'I Need your lovin' & i also really like the sound on Black light Orchestra's 'Touch Me Take Me' & Ultimate's 'Love Is The Ultimate'; the orchestration on these tracks is quite breath-taking IMHO.
...ya gotta beat the street......
It may be too lush for some people, but the Ritchie Family "Brazil" medley--Peanut Vendor/Frenesi/Brazil--is my favorite dance-related orchestration.
The b-side of Cerrone III. Those violins are just breath taking! I also like very much the violins in the long intro of Isaac Hayes' Paradise. I think these are quite well arranged and full of energy.
Sami M --- WELCOME TO THE BOARDOriginally Written by Sami M
And I am so glad you mentioned Isaac Hayes' "Stranger In Paradise". This song just came to the attention of one of our members a few months ago and he couldn't believe Isaac had done this song. Nice to have some outside confirmation.
Enjoy!

Thanks, I'm allready enjoying myself alot :D
I must warn you that I'm terribly bad in remembering song names, and if I write from work I am not able to check them down
Most all of Costandinos' work; particularly Romeo & Juliet,
(which I like quite a bit - very "catchy" beat and sound)
Accidental Lover and Thank God It's Friday.
And Donna Summer's work especially Last Dance and Spring Affair.
The San Remo Strings - I'm Satistified
On the "Ric Tic" Label just brilliant
Keep the Faith
From the politically un-PC mid-70's to the house millenium there's one track that has stopped all others with it's orchestration and it's Cerrone's anthemic "Love in C Minor". Did you see the crowd explode all over that huge Paris concert hall on tv last year when the jumping strings came on? Jesus christ, on the album there were only 5 girls Mr. C did but at the Olympia there were something like 500 that screamed for more, and probably as many guys as well. With those pumping and probing basslines and those strings that lick you all over it's indeed hard to say where the music ends and the sex begins. On the other hand, Silver Convention's "San Francisco Hustle" and "Dancing In The Aisle" plus Trax's "Breathless" show that sometimes less is more - again, check out those violins.
What is this record? The San Remo Strings...sounds wonderful in a loungey leopard skin way, has the track something to do with the eternally tacky San Remo Song festival?Originally Written by Stan
It seems that nobody mentionned any Boris Midney track. For me you can't find better orchestration than in his different projects.
Best of all are for me "Beautiful Bend - Make that feeling come again" and "Caress - Catch the Rythm".
Cerrone and Costandinos are of course wonderful too.
I\'m a Victim ( of th very Song I sing )
I didn't mention Boris Midney because I thought there was no orchestra involved. That it was all electronic. After your post, I went and read the credits on "Caress" and they do mention Bob DePasquale's String Group. If they're real people, and not a gimmick like the 'musicians' on the Rinder & Lewis albums, then Boris would automatically get my vote. Beautiful Bend is one of my favorite lp's.Originally Written by Com King
