    Another technology advance in Music

    Found this article on autotuners for vocals interesting.I guess the emergence of Cyber artists is upon us.Now I understand how Mariah Carey hits those high notes with such clarity.

    Actually, Mariah really is singing those notes. Autotuners won't help you get your voice in the stratosphere, it just corrects off-key vocals. Besides, she's been doing it for years before autotuners came into existence.

    Autotuning is all over Madonna's "American Life" album, but here it is very obvious and being used as a creative effect. Another album that you might not know has it in spades is Shania Twain's "Up". The latter is supposedly much more down to earth, but has as much pitch correction, and quanitization as "Die Another Day". Most people aren't familiar with the sound of autotune, but it practically screams at me on Twain's "Forever And For Always".

    This is an interesting article. I wouldn't know if an autotuner had been used or not in most cases. You used to be able to find out if your favorite singer deserved your praise when they gave their live performances. I guess those days are now gone. On the other hand, since the MTV generation, it does seem young artists are expected to do a helluva a lot more on stage than just sing. Now they can dance their asses off and the autotuner will still have them sounding better than they really do. :roll:

    Very interesting indeed, this is the first I hear about autotuners, I guess I’m not keeping up with the latest digital studio tricks;

    I also read about another techno innovation, this one is for Cell phones ringtones, apparently Motorola develop a DJ software “Motomixer” for cell phones that allows the user to ‘mix’ his own unique personal ringtone and adjust the bass and drums too….
