    What about euro disco?

I think that european artists don't get anough credit for their contribution to disco. Claude Francois would be an excellent example. He had some unbelieveable disco material before his death in 1978. Songs like Alexandrie Alexandra, Le Lundi au soleil, and Magnolias Forever to name but a few.
And what about Falco the Austrian genius who revolutionised the european disco sound of the 80's. And then there's Gilbert Montagne of France also who had some fantastic disco material. Nobody seems to have a clue who they are yet in their own countries they are revered.

Falco was a very great man and I was a huge fan of him back in the 80s. I bought every LP that was issued here in the USA as they came out. He became more a rock artist once the "Falco 3" LP came out in 1985 (over here in the USA was 1986). I will say Falco had a nice 12" single in 86 with "Vienna Calling" with the very highly Giorgio Moroder "Chase" sounding version on the A side (The Tourist Version) and then the B side "Midnight Train To Vienna" which is a pure post Eurodisco and now obscure instrumental work of art in my oppinion. For original disco music though I do put the track "Einzelhalft" (from late 81/early 82) in my top late Eurodisco underground faves list. I even did a 7 min plus extended mix of the track a few months ago :D I am still needing to compleate my Falco collection and get hold of all the Lps (well..CDs for these lol) that wern't issued over here which I have got to hear tracks from, basicly I think its the last 3 albums "Data Da Groove", "Natchurflug (or somethin like that lol)" and "Out Of The Dark" which the title track is a great modern rock song! Even though the verses are in German. Falco lives forever in my mind and was never forgoton or unknown The others you mentioned I'll have to check out cause I am not familiar with those.

Ok, just checked out via mp3 some Claude Francois stuff. Everything I came accross was not even close to disco music, was all early 70s pop.... with the acception of "Alexandrie Alexandra" which is a brilliant Eurodisco sound comparable to say Alec R. Costandinos or Cerrone (forgive me for using both those names in the same sentence for those who know that story lol). What are some tracks like "Alexandrie Alexandra" he did? That other one you mentioned is like a mellow pop song and havent found the "Magnolia" one yet. But I will say that one track is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference from what else I heard..would swear it was a different artist if the voice wasnt the same as in the pop stuff. Came accross a pop version of "Eloise" sung in French by him which im used to hearing done disco by Alec R Costandinos. But high props to the "Alexandrie Alexandra" track, that one just totaly kicks ass and is great! Wish it was longer though than 4:30..maybe I can fix that if I put it to tape :D, anyway, please let me know if theres any other stuff like that one that he did cause if so..im more than interested to discover it!

    WELCOME TO THE BOARD, jamesyirishguy

Good of you to jump right in with a good topic. I've only heard of Falco so like DJ Jimmy M, my interest is piqued. Hope you share some more good music with us and enjoy your time on the site.

Surely I appreciate Euro Disco. Jumbo's "Turn On To Love" : exceptional wah wah guitar effects. Quartz's "Beyond The Clouds": a first-class piano solo, an exclusive "new-age disco". And the Costandinos' birds of Paris.
