Yes, it was a huge song in the clubs. At the time I was hanging out at Satch's, Cache and 78 Broadway. These Boston clubs would mix the break over and over to my delight.
Was "A Little Bit of Jazz" by Nick Straker big in U.S. clubs?
I've only discovered this song recently and don't remember it from years ago.

I think it was a lot bigger in America than it was in the UK. The LP didn't even get released here, even though Nick Bailey and his crew were British. The US Prelude LP may have been a sort of comp., possibly.Originally Written by nrgbeat
Anyhow, I'd always understood '...Jazz' to have been quite an influential record 'Stateside.
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?
I certainly played it a lot in dear old Winchester (almost as conservative a city as you could possibly find in the UK) and it used to go down well. I would not be surprised if this was against perceived wisdom. Used to love mixing that record.
This song was a big hit on the radio, also in the clubs of New York City.
A favorite of mine, for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like everything that Nick Straker did, so i find it annoying that there is very little info on the band & their records are quite hard to come by in the UK; ironic when you consider Nick & co.are British!
...ya gotta beat the street......
Did you mix it with 'Feel Alright' by Komiko, Quinny..?!I certainly played it a lot in dear old Winchester (almost as conservative a city as you could possibly find in the UK) and it used to go down well. Steely, there's a really good interview with Nick Straker here - plus a link to his web site. :)I like everything that Nick Straker did, so i find it annoying that there is very little info on the band & their records are quite hard to come by in the UK; ironic when you consider Nick & co.are British!

Forrrce: Sorry, I've never heard the Komiko track. Apart from liking the track (ALBOJ) a great deal, it was nice and steady and therefore great to mix with. I quite liked Straight Ahead too, but 'Jazz' will always be the numero uno for me.
Feel Alright was a sleeper hit in New York also....
A fan, friendly song heard @ the Paradise Garage.
I loved it and still play it on an occasion!

Actually I do remember reading in James Hamilton's column that "ALBOJ" was big in 2 places - New York and Winchester. Didn't Prelude licence it after FK heard the track when he lived in Hampshire and recomended they sign it?
Leather is the way forward!
Leatherman: I didn't realise anyone knew that story.
Nick Straker's still active on the music scene in the UK. I saw him perform last year as part of Dennis Bovell's Dub Band at the Royal Festival Hall. He's collaborated with Dennis Bovell for many years.
The 12" has recently been rereleased/repressed if anyone on here is looking for it and dos not want to pay inflated prices. The sound is better on the repress than on the original.
Another great cut from the Prelude LP is - The Beat Inside - I just recently got my hands on a copy of this LP, which up until this year had never seen, anywhere.

I remember strutting to 'A Walk In The Park' whether or not that was disco, I'll leave that to you DJs to decide, but it did get the crowd on their feet back in 79.
Just dug out the '98.7 Kiss FM presents Shep Pettibone's Mastermixes' double album from '82 (UK Prelude/Epic EPC 22138) and gave ALBOJ a spin - still sounds great after 2 decades.
KayJay, now that is one awesome mix. Too bad that album is out of print or wasn't issued on cd. I'd recommend every get it. Come Let Me Love You is in that set and I've mentioned on numerous occassions how much I loved Shep's mix.Originally Written by KayJayEm54
