    Amy Bolton

    Who is Amy Bolton?

I see her name popping up on an old Billboard chart with a song called "What Does It Take" Is it disco? funk? new wave?

nrgbeat, how old is old? At my job, we listen to a smooth jazz radio station... I could swear I've been hearing a version of "What Does It Take" (not to be confused with the Kenny G" version". I think I've heard this song twice... and I have a feeling it's more than a year old.

Disconet and/or Importe 12 has published several Amy Bolton songs between 1979 and 1983.
"Do Me A Favor", "Talk Talk", "Tres Chichi", "Get Up And Get it", "What Does It Takes", "Sweet Revenge", "Kicks" and "Over And Over"
I think it is new wave, but I like Amy Bolton's songs not so much.

I have all those Amy Bolton records--she was sorta like a Laura Branigan-type; early '80's pop/rock with a dance beat.

Her "What Does It Take" went like this...

"what does it take to believe that you're number one, only yourself, only yourself"

She was a white chick; I think one of her 12" has a photo--I'll take a look and see who she looked like.
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

Amy Bolton is born 1955 (1956), has long blond hair and blue eyes. She grew up in The Bronx, and say that "Rock and roll is an attitude. It's mean, lean, hard and tight." She studied classical piano from age 4 on, and worked for a music publisher for 6 years.

In Billboard Dance charts was she placed with "Do Me A Favor" (1981, #26) and "What Does It Take" (1982, #20).

Maybe it's the original version by Jr. Walker & The All Stars. Jr. gives great 'sax' on this baby.

As for Ms. Bolton, I remember not being a big fan of her stuff.

The only record I knew from Amy Bolton was the 12" of "Do me a favor", a big favorite of mine on those new wave days. Like many of those artists, Amy sounded very disco on that song, but more rockish on others like "Tres Chichi". Anyway, that record remained in my memory and I got it again recently at the fair.
The label is Importe/12, the record number MP-309 and was issued in 1980. Jimmy Bralower, Jimmy Ryan and Steve Catania are credited as producers (the first two play drums and guitar on the record), but Amy wrote most of the tunes herself. Side A has the dance remix of "Do me a favor"; side B contains four songs, including "Tres Chichi" and the original version of DMAF.
She doesn't look very blond on the blowed-up black & white cover photo. Most like a Chrissie Hynde type. Fits with the record, which was made in New York.
Marky, I envy you! I've been looking for another Amy Bolton record for years.
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
