    Luther question

As we probably all know, the were two albums issued on the Cotillion label - Luther (1976) and This Close To You (1977) and apparantly he bought back the rights to them so they could never be reissued.

Now what's the deal about these albums. Has anyone around here ever heard them, or maybe even managed to buy them back in the day?

I got some info for you... hopefully this will help:

Luther was his stage name at the time

It's Good For The Soul - Pt. 1 (Cotillion 44200)
Funky Music (Is A Part Of Me)/The 2nd Time Around (Cotillion 44205)
This Close To You (Cotillion 44216)

those were singles that made the r&b american charts :D

My friend Larry Rossiello gave me his test pressing of the 12", "It's Good for the Soul" by Luther. This is all I've ever heard. The 12" is nice because parts 1 and 2 are combined, running like 7 or 8 minutes. I'll admit that when he first gave me this I trashed it, thinking the only 'good for the soul' I would be playing is by Salsoul Orchestra. Live and learn. When he released "Never Too Much" I was like, I have this guy on something  . I'm playing it now, sounds good to hear Luther singing with energy: TOUCH ME IN THE MORNING / THAT'S WHEN I LIKE IT. All the classic touches are evident, even in this early outing.

Thanks for this info Nicky & Efunk :)
Well...things has changed since I started this thread and thankfully, I've now been able to listen to a few tracks from the "This Close To You Album"

Allthough I wasn't too impressed at first, I have a strange feeling these songs will grow on me (old Luther stuff has a tendency to do that :) )
