I'll take a guess. Bee Gee's "You Should Be Dancing".
Prompted by Jim's question yesterday regarding the Billboard Disco charts, I did a little research on the various formats the charts have taken over the years, since their inception in late 1974. I'll post that info later, when I have more time.
However, an interesting piece of trivia was revealed as I did my research:
What was the first #1 Disco song on the first National Disco Top 40 chart for the week ending 8/28/76?
Hmmmm... anyone??? Those of you with the charts--no fair peeking (that means you Flo)

I'll take a guess. Bee Gee's "You Should Be Dancing".
nrgbeat has it right.
That was also their only #1 on the mational Disco chart.
(The SNF soundtrack;listed as Staying alive/Night Fever/More then a Woman only got up to #4 or so,but did hit #1 in NY)
Boy, nrgbeat, you are Correct, Sir!!! I guess that was too easy, huh???
I only brought that up because some folks around here (you know who you are) love to bash the Brothers Gibb and insist that none of their music was EVER played in the exclusive clubs they partied at in East Armpit, N.J. or South Crotchrot, FL.
Now, the Bee Gee's first hit # 1 in LA/SD on July l7. 1976. The next week, it was #1 in NYC & Boston, also.
By Aug. 21, it was #1 in the nation and would remain so for another 5 weeks.
As of Sept 11, (prophetic date) it was #1 in Atlanta, Denver, Detroit, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Seattle, Chicago & Toronto.
It had slipped to #2 in New York & Miami, Phoenix and D.C/Baltimore; #3 in LA/SD; #4 in Boston; #5 in Pittsburgh (Jeff musta walked off the dance floor in search of a more romantic tune)and # 8 in Houston.
Ok, I'm overstating the obvious--but, baby,as Nicky once said "IT WAS PLAYED!!!"

So there was a disaster on Sept. 11 in 1976 too, huh, Marky?
Considering that on that date I was still a mere 18 years old, I hadn't yet walked ON to any dance floor anywhere.
But by the time I did start going to clubs frequented by people with those chosen alternative lifestyles that we've been asked not to talk about, I recall that music by the Bee Gees and/or from SNF was played ONLY in the early hours of the night, before the club got busy--in clubs in Pittsburgh at least (which, I'll be the first to admit, is a barometer for nothing!).
