To be honest Steely, I've never played this version. Not even sure if I have it. The only one for me is the version by Consumer Rapport.
You may recall (or may not) that I listed this track as one of my favourite MJ tracks on an MJ thread a few months ago (I know it was a duet with Ms.Ross but I think it still counts!) but I've never actually got around to obtaining a copy. Can anyone tell me if the 12" is worth getting or shall I just get the CD soundtrack of 'The Wiz' which includes 3 short versions of the track? (how gay is that?- a disco version of the Wizard of Oz?!) This CD is easily available but the rest of the soundtrack is pretty awful, much like the film IMO.
...ya gotta beat the street......

There was also a great cover of this by The Salsoul Orchestra
on their 1978 album "Up The Yellow Brick Road" which featured lush disco orchestration of broadway and movie soundtracks as only they could produce with their all-star lineup of muscians and producers.
I have the extended (12" version) on promotional vinyl, and the long version is the only way to go - the break is breath-taking; I wish the long mix was available on CD!
Steely: This was a record I used to have, but sadly, no longer.
Memory is a little hazy at times, but I can safely say this was a record that I liked and played. I never knew why such a small amount happened for it. You would have thought that with two stellar beings collaborating on a track, it would have been a biggish hit.
Try and get the 12", it was very good.
