This sounds very familiar.
I bet it's Lani Hall (Mrs. Herb Alpert) from her LP titled "Double Or Nothing" (1979/A&M).
Sung by a female vocal. Lyrics go something like: "you know that you're a winner. And you comfort me when I'm a beginner. Wondering when you will soothe me. Quiet the beast that moves me . . . you get double or nothing . . ."

"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Marky, I purchased the Lani Hall version sometime ago and it wasn't it (Brazilian Jazz). After my post, I checked with a local used vinyl distributor. I must've gone through a few hundred dance/disco bins of records. Would you believe I came across a "disco" version of "Double or Nothing." Needless to say I now have both versions. I won't lie, I also picked up a few other 12" I've been looking for. Thanks for your reply
