I am glad that the CD was not commercially available in the late seventies. I started collecting records in 1970 and I am happy that my collection is not part record and part CD.
Since I bought all of my disco when it was popular, it is on vinyl.
I think that CD's are fine. All the disco when new was issued on vinyl. That is where the original songs are, uncut and without any added production.
I like CD's but, I do not think that all of my disco records are available on CD. Back in the seventies, there were a few disco compilations that I purchased. They nearly all had the longer LP version of the song. Now, it seems, that disco compilations put the shortest version on the CD in order to fit more songs. Maybe that is what most buyers want now? Is that right? Or are there compilations with long versions out?
I liked "A Night At Studio 54" from 1979 and there was a KTel Or Ronco LP called, "Disco Boogie" (also avialiable on 8-track) Both of these had the LP version. That is the only copy I have of, "Turn the Beat Around." on the compilation LP.
I just picked up a compilation from Columbia called Club Classics.
For example, it has the long versions of I'll Always Love My Mama - The Intruders and The Love I Love - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes.
There are Compilations out there with the Long Versions of songs.. Check out The Loft - Boxed Sets.......
Keep the faith and everything will come your way as time marches on!
