    Would you vote for Arnie?

I just heard that Arnold Schwarzenegger will run for governor of California. I know there's no politics allowed, but just for the trivia value... What do you think Marky? Does he have any real possibilities to win?
BTW, I remember a Premiere piece against Arnold accussing him of harassing women journalists. Anyone remembers that now? Was that true?
C'mon guys, I want real Californication here!!! :)

Ah-nuld has got a lot of baggage to deal with.....and some of that baggage is hidden in his closet. This isn't Clint Eastwood running for the Mayor of Carmel, this is serious business. His family history ("we were only following orders"), his bodybuilding career (Joe Weider.....Franco Columbo.....) and the numerous stories about harrassment and general crudeness with women (which may be apochryphal). It will be interesting to see how the media covers this (it will be REALLY interesting to see how Maria "Skeletor" Shriver deals with it). Should a person's character or family background be an issue during an election?

I sure as hell will NOT be voting for Ahhhnuld!!!!

The sad thing is that with his name recognition and the amount of candidates (Gary Coleman!!! Gallagher!!! billboard pinup Angelyne!!!!--I'm NOT kidding--they're candidates!!!!) ---the winner could squeak by with just a very small percentage (as low as 15%) of the vote.

But, please doesn't anyone remember Governor Jesse "The Body" Ventura's reign as Governor of Minnesota??? DUH???!!!! The voters there realized they'd made a big booboo a few months after he started his term.

Why anyone would want to be governor of CA right now-- inheriting all the problems in this state-- I don't understand.

Oh, and don't forget the womanizing!!!!

One guy I met was a production assistant on one of Ahhhnuld's sets and quoted him as saying to a girl on the set..."Meet me in my traaaylor and we'll do 72".

    She says "What's 72?"

"That's 69 with 3 of my fingers up your ass."!!!

    I don't know if it's true...BUT please.

But he's the Terminator. How could you not vote for him?

Don't forget Larry Flynt. He would be my top pick.

    I agree with Marky.
OK, this is all cute but this is serious business. This whole business has a dirtiness to it. The guy that paid for the bulk of this "Total Recall" cried as he dropped out of this race today. He sank his millions only to see The Terminator take over.
Hey, wasn't Arnold part of that struggling Planet Hollywood business.
Stay tuned. I hear that if a Republican wins this (Arnold), there will be a drive for another recall!

That would be Darrell Issa - couldn't have happened to a better person!

Now the latest is that the California Supreme Court has refused to intervene on the recall. So, the nonsense continues...

    Oh, you wacky Californians!

Sure, there are a lot of rumors about Ah-nuld's past (nude photos too), but can anybody run for a high-profile office and not have a few skeletons uncovered? It's just the nature of politics these days.

Arnold's candidacy makes about as much sense as Gary Coleman's, but at least Arnold seems to be a Republican in a traditional sense, before the religious fanatics hijacked the party. Arnold is a fiscal conservative (which California desperately needs now--but then, so does the city of Pittsburgh) but is also pro-choice and favors gun control and gay equality. So what's not to like?

I'd be tempted to vote for Ariana Huffington, another fiscal conservative/socially liberal candidate, or hell, even Larry Flynt.

I'm hoping they don't postpone or cancel the recall election, since I'll be in California on Oct. 7 and it would be fun to be in the thick of that circus!

Hi Jeff! I think the main problem with Arnold is that he's totally inexperienced. By the way, I have the issue of "After Dark" magazine (from way back in the 70s) that had Ah-nuld nude (oh no!). Let's just say the big muscles were probably to make up for another part of his anatomy!

As for both Arianna and Ah-nuld, how can we know what they stand for when we can't even understand them with their heavy accents??! :-? However, if I had to choose between the two, I think I might lean towards her. She does interview well.

As for your comment about being here for the recall election - that's easy for you to say. You're phone won't be ringing off the hook with pollsters and campaigners and your mailbox won't be stuffed with thousands of pieces of campaign material! Sigh...

Gray Davis sucks as governor, I'd be the first to admit. However, that rich fat-cat rat bastard Republican Darryl Issa thought that by paying people to sign his damn recall petition...he could get himself another chance to run. Now, because of Ah-nuld, he has had to drop out. Poor thing--SERVES YA RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's just the sneakiness of the whole thing that pisses me off.

Can we recall Bushwhacker??? If we could recall him, I'd be ok with the Davis recall.

Here, here Mark! I'm with you on that!!!

By the way, did you hear about Arianna Huffington already getting catty with Ah-nuld? She was bitching that he needs to get rid of his Humvee and get a more energy efficient vehicle.

    Let the games begin!

Today NY1 and CNN reported that while Arnold is running for governor, all of his movies will be pulled from network TV in Cali - like people can't get his movies elsewhere  ! Just like reporters, they also brought up his chronic womanizing, pot smoking and steroid popping days in the 70's. If I lived in Cali, I would vote Arnold for "Best Actor" not governor. Celebrities turned politicians just don't sit well with me, its like pop-stars turned designers, athletes turned singers - their money and fame makes up for their lack of experience!

Maria "Skeletor" Shriver

Given the choices and for the fun value, I would vote for Larry Flynt.
Imagine a ballotage between Larry and Arnold... Mmmmm! :o
However, has any of these guys any real chances?

Aren't politics not allowed on 'Discuss Non-Music Related Topics'? :-? Sorry, I'm being a rules-crazy party pooper aren't I? Maybe I have some Austrian in me? (well, if he was as small as Arnie I dont think I'd have noticed! :D )

Yes, Steely, you're right. But sadly, this is turning into more of a joke than true politics. Plus, the discussion thus far has been relatively light. Bernie must agree since he hasn't edited a word or asked anyone to stop. Unfortunately for California, after October 7 the real **** will hit. That discussion I think will not be seen here :) .

I think this whole recall thing is a joke. I can't believe the cast of characters who have filed to run against Gray Davis. Besides people such as Larry Flynt and Angelyne, Gary Coleman (yes, the actor from "Different Strokes") has filed, and I believe some porn star has as well. I read that there are about 158 people so far who have filed to be candidates. No wonder why Davis says this is an insult to voters. I agree with him. I don't even think that most of the candidates take this seriously.

I'm moving to California and voting for Mary Carey ("Playboy's Totally Busted"). I'd like to join her cabinet......I wouldn't mind a position below her.

Hey Boodi, Paul, please don't get so political :)

Of course I started this thread for the trivia value... I don't know **** of California politics (thanks to both Bernie and NickNack for understanding this). Still, I was intrigued about what were the real chances of these "star" candidates. Is there any poll -I don't know if it's the right word- already made about this? You know, as in "70% of Californians would vote for Gary Coleman" :-?

    Nano,

Ah-nuld stands a very good chance of winning the recall election. The rest don't have a snowballs chance in hell.

Unless the Democrats can keep Gray Davis in office, or substitute Cruz Bustamante (Lieutenant governor). as an alternative choice...

Ah-nuld is the the victor on sheer name recognition and the anti-politician feeling in the air. The fact that he's never held any political office dosn't seem to matter. If he can keep on dodging the tough questions for 60 days...HE CAN WIN!!!!

Gary Coleman is just using this as a chance to get back on TV. No one would actually hire him as an actor....well better this than shooting someone, right? :P

So you don't think that Larry Flynt has a chance to win the election? Or Angelyne? Or that porn star? You're kidding.

I want Davis to stay in office. I plan to vote against the recall.

I believe you. And I wouldn't be surprised if he does win the election. People love actors in politics. Look at Ronald Reagan.

Gary Coleman is just using this as a chance to get back on TV. No one would actually hire him as an actor....well better this than shooting someone, right? :P
Well, how many of these candidates are actually taking this seriously?

Thanks, Marky. Certainly, Gary Coleman sounds like an odd choice. Now, if Dana Plato was still alive... I wouldn't minded to have voted for her. But life's unfair!
Maybe Gary should try a reality show. They could do one with out-of-employment actors... say, OJ Simpson, Gary, Molly Ringwald and some others living in the same cubicle. That way people could vote for them and they would get paid! Also they could bitch about their younger-luckier competition. Imagine Di Ross ditching Liza in public! That could make a better rating than many TV shows! :)

Well, I'll be voting no on the recall. On the second half of it in case the recall goes through, I'll vote for Gary. I think it would be poetic justice if he won
