    Loft title by...The Hollies

A dj informed me that "Dragging My Heels" by rock band The Hollies was a minor Loft item and now in hot demand. The track is off an album called "Russian Roulette". Did anyone ever program it? Has anyone heard it? Is it any good, disco/boogie as we know it or something more mutated like "Rock The Casbah"? And importantly, was there a 12-incher?

Jussi, yes it was a pretty big record at The Loft. It's on the B-side to Soldier Song and on the album you mention. There is also a 12-inch, which is extremely hard to find, which came out later. From what I know of the 12-inch, it's just a re-edit of the original rather than a remix. But it is longer than the LP and 45 versions. It's not like Rock The Casbah, it's much more low key, less shouty than that. I'd say it's nearer to the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young type of sound. It's well writh tracking down and not hard to find on 45.

Thanks for the info! Never seen any hollies 12-inchers or if i did, I paid no attention thinking they were just useless rock things. Got to start looking, hopefully if i fail here London will be the place later this month - it's Frightfest time at the prince charles cinema!

They really did play the most oddball selection of music at The Loft didn't they? I'm all for an esoteric mix of music but I draw the line at The Hollies, possibly one of THE worst groups known to man. Sorry, I came over all Quinny-esque then didn't I? :-? I'm living dangerously tonight as I live in the Hollies' home town! :( Sometimes I just don't care darlings.

Aah, but Steely, will you get the bad boy image and dumpings from on high? I very much doubt it. Say waht you think, there's nothing wrong with that.

We LOVED The Hollies in St. Olaf....and I still do in LA, today. :P

I have a 12" by them of "Stop! In The Name Of Love"--I kid you not!!! Yes, the old Supremes classic updated to the early soft rock 1980s!!!!

What didn't I get (and KEEP) from Aloha Records!!!!????

Seriously though The Hollies had lots of great records:

I'm Alive (later remade by American Fade)
    I Can't Let Go
    Bus Stop
    Pay You Back With Interest
    On A Carousel
    Carrie Anne
    Dear Eloise
    King Midas In Reverse
    Jennifer Eccles
He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother (sorry but it was my dad's favorite song)
Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress) CLASSIC!!!!
    The Air That I Breathe
    Long Dark Road

    So there!!!!! :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

what a delightful tune (although it probably wouldn't have held me on the floor for its full 6:45 minute duration) ...
to my ears .... a decedent of the dirty LOWDOWN :

    DRAGGIN' MY HEELS

(and , dare I say , ... with additional tinges of the not as yet existent COPACABANA ! )

HOLLIES: 'Daddy Don't Mind' (Polydor 2058779)
Uh-oh, now the Hollies go disco. Packing a powerful beat, they thud and thump along until a messy guitar break slightly spoils the flow.

    DADDY DON'T MIND

disco ? Curious as to what songs from then come to mind that would be good to mix with it ??

( sort of thinking - TRY OUTS FOR THE HUMAN RACE by Sparks although much faster, could work with some parts ....released years later though ...)

Interesting too, is that both of those songs are off the same album , although they seem miles apart in sound . (maybe that's the results of the 12" reworking)

This one is from that LP too:

    WIGGLE THAT WOTZIT

KC & the Sunshine Band influenced ???

That Hollies track is so classy - you can imagine it done by Toto or Gino Vanelli. What a revelation!

yes , WHO (!!!???) when put to the test would ever guess that was The Hollies ( in 1977 no less ) ?

It's so suave, listening to it makes me ache to drive cross the desert to get to Vegas and the crap tables.

    DRAGGIN' MY HEELS

the intro also makes me think Isley Bros. ..... or does it also conjur up this? :

    SAVE A PRAYER

(brings back memories of late night /early morning homework "coke" breaks , with my roommate who was a pioneer in large screen TV ownership and of taping videos .We mutually always liked watching this one ....)
