Yesterday I bought the first BOMBERS cd and all I have to say is that it BOMBED!!!! A friend of mine who used to work in Record Explosion said that it was the "BOMB". Yeah right - wait til I see him! The main reason why I bought it was for the "MEXICAN" but it don't sound as good as the "Mexican" that I'm used to hearing. I've noticed that the credits on the BOMBERS and KEBEKELETRIK is the same (Pat Desario and production company Unidisc Inc. from Quebec, Canada). The differences are the producers BOMB:George Lagios / KEBE:Gino Soccio but I like KEBE ten times more than BOMBERS. I'm gonna see if I can exchange it.

    I'm also listening to:

1.Superfly Soundtrack - Curtis Mayfield (NEW)

    2.Love In C-Minor - Cerrone

    3.Butterflies - Michael Jackson

4.Show You The Way To Go/Enjoy Yourself - The Jacksons

    5.I'll Play The Fool/Hard Times - Dr.Buzzard Savannah Band

6.To Each His Own - Faith, Hope & Charity

    7.More, More,More - Andrea True Connection

    8.Native New Yorker/Inside Out - Odyssey

    9.Once Upon A Time - Donna Summer(New)

    HAPPY EASTER!

Hustle, I love ya, but I must disagree with you. I know the version of "The Mexican" that you like must be the Jellybean version from 84/85. It's good, and probably "dancier", but I think the Bomber's version was meant to be more in line with the original "Per Qualche Dollaro In Piu" by Morricone, and the following interpolation by Allan Shacklock and Babe Ruth. It's one of my "2 a.m." favorites. I like "Don't Stop The Music" and "Dance, Dance, Dance" as well.

I would say this: the compilation is not as well put together as the KEBEKELEKTRIK CD. Chacun son gout!

Never been much of a Bombers fan, apart from the occassional spin of "Get Dancing". Somehow it sounded a bit too simplistic to me.

Glad to see "Show you the way to go" by The Jacksons found itself onto a list. This is a nice Gamble/Huff track which to me always sounded out-of-character for the Jacksons.

I am listening to a pile of compilation CD's that were send to me by eehhhmm... let's say a good friend to all of us.

I especially like (and I am only mentioning a few choice selections):

    Destination - Destination's theme

    Fancy - Come inside

Francis Simone - Let your body run

Cerrone - You are the one

    Nancy Martin - Can't believe

Maarten - "Get Dancin'" is on their second cd though I wish it was on the one that I have.

Boodikka - "Dance Dance Dance" and "Supermax"

is okay but I'll listen to it again as well as the 12" inch version of "The Mexican". I used to borrow the tape from my aunt so I don't know what version was playing but it did not sound like 80's music.

I know the version of "The Mexican" that you like must be the Jellybean version from 84/85.

I just checked my double album "Jellybean rocks the house" which is a 1988 double album with remixes from his 1987 "Just visiting this planet" album. Apart from the hits "The real thing", "You keep me coming back for more", "Who found who" and other tracks (all excellent, by the way), it contains the La Casa De Juego Remix of "Jingo". But no "Mexican", and neither on his 1991 album "Spillin' the beans".

Was this a 12" effort or something?

I'm going to rehash my "Mexican"ology here....it's a reworking of one of my original posts, so bear with me if it seems redundant. It's a chronology of all the disco/rock versions (that I am familiar with)of Morricone's "For A Few Dollars More" (Per Qualche Dollaro In Piu)

1975: Babe Ruth .....with Allan Shacklock and Ellie Hope's sister on vocals (can't remember her name)

    1977/78: Bombers

1979: Disco Circus (with "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" thrown in)

1984/85: Jellybean.....on the SIDEWALK TALK album

1989: Lemon Orange "The Texican/Dreams Of Santa Anna".....a house sample-fest

I'm sure there are other versions I'm missing.

Thanks Goddess - that explains it. The "Sidewalk talk" album is not in my collection. Which reminds that I should try and get it... as it would complete the Jellybean discography (as well as the Madonna files).

    Hey Delight.

I see "Let Me Show You The Way To Go" showing up quite often with you. I can't blame you, it's a wonderful song and great to do the Hustle to. I'm guessing it's probably in your top ten for the era.

Am I the only one who was disappointed by the music that was released by Jellybean Benitez as an artist? As a remixer, I though he was tops, and I grabbed anything that had his name on it--but, his LP's were just OK to mediocre, IMHO.

I guess his cover of "The Mexican" was the thing I liked the most, but I never thought much of anything else, "Sidewalk Talk" included.

Paul, I wasn't too crazy about The Jacksons when they got older. However, "Let Me Show You The Way To Go" is my FAVORITE not just from them but from that decade like you mentioned. "Enjoy Yourself and Can You Feel It" is alright, they were my mother's favorite. I also love "Centipede" by Rebbie Jackson!

Speaking of Jellybean, I've only known him as a great mixer.I didn't know that he had several LPs and bad ones at that. What was the problem - his voice, music?????? Several years back, wasn't he going out with Madonna and Nicolette Scorcese(Martin's daughter) at the same time?
