One of the worst remixes I've heard the last years is the one Jam & Spoon made of Giorgio Moroder's Chase - they shouldn't have touched that track...

Folks:
I asked this question before, but I felt the responses this time around should be entertaining!
What was the best/worst remixes heard in clubs/radio?
For example:
The best remix I ever heard was Shep Pettibone's remix of Let No Man Put Asunder - First Choice
The worst remix was the 1994 Unidisc release of Candi Staton - Young Hearts Run Free
In 1982, I was @ the Paradise Garage and Francois K played his remixes of "Beat The Street" by Sharon Redd and my former, classmate "D-Train" - Keep On for the first time. The response from the crowd in attendance was festive!
Part II of this question is:
Have you ever heard a DJ spun so awful, that you were either by yourself or among your friends and responded?
Tell us about those horrible mixes and who was the DJ?
Extra credit:
Tell us about the mixes where the original versions should've been left alone.
For example:
The extended version of The Groove Line - Heatwave when the original version on the 7" was good enough.
Keep the faith and everything will come your way as time marches on!

OK Folks,
Many views, one response and I'm sure that we have many recordings in our collection. Also, I'm sure that many remixes or remixers passed us by as lousy ones. Let me know your opinions because I'm sure that other are interested just like yours truly. :o

Not sure if this counts as a remix really but the 12" of Sun Sun Sun by Ja KKi is a three lane pile up.
The House remix of Runaway Love - Linda Clifford nearly made me throw up when I heard it!!

I don't go to clubs or listen to the radio but I've never heard one single remix of ANY of Cerrone's songs that I thought improved on the originals. I also don't like the 2 remixes of "From East to West" on the "Best of Voyage" Unidisc comp. It sounds like someone was trying to funk up the song to maybe make it more modern....yuck and double yuck.
Part I: One of the worst re-mixes I've ever heard was the re-mix of Dr. Love by First Choice. I can't remember what label it's on, (have to look through the crates first & get back to you), but I made a vow to never play it at a club again!!!
Part II: Although I loved him to death, Tee Scott wasn't always the best DJ as far as bringing in his records. They'd usually be Off Beat when he mixes them in, and then he'll Straighten them out once he gets them together.
Then he'll let his tounge hang out of his mouth, when it starts getting good to him!!!:icon_lol:
'NUFF SAID
And there was a dub remix of Debbie Harry's circa 1987 "In Love With Love" on her Back to the Bleach compilation that truly sucked (totally taking the energy out of the song).
And to credit one of the best . . .the high-energy '99 Thunderpuss remix to the much lower-tempo "It's Not Right, But It's Okay" by Whitney H. was pure magic.:icon_lol:
I forget who remixed Chaka Khan's version of 'I'm Every Woman', but it totally STUNK! I need to sell that album on EBay but I'll only just break it in pieces anyway.
I totally love the remix of ESG's 'Moody', done by the one & only Sesso Matto! :icon_lol:
I wasn't crazy about Sylvester's "Someone Like You' untill I heard this remix by The one and only Larry Levan
And I absolutely LOVE the build up and tease of this remix of T Connection 's At Midnight
I remember reading Streetsound magazine and they raved about Lime's Sentimentally yours and the fact that it was being remixed & about to be released on 12".
When the remix arrived - it was such a letdown because they had taken a rousing Hi-Nrg track and turned it into a smooth house affair.
Thank God the album version was a respectable 5+ minutes long.

I was actually thinking about this in the last few days...
For me, the worst remix is Jim Burgess' mess on Rod Stewart's Da Ya Think I'm Sexy, just because the album version has so much tension and the mix itself starts to cook like hell toward the end and the damn thing fades out.
It would have been a far better idea to issue an instrumental and edit it rather than getting Jim's mix out there just because he was the mixer of the moment.
Having said that, I think his mix on Nicolette Larson's "Lotta Love" is a glittering beauty, a real morning music classic and 4:22 of bliss.
Considering he only did one mix as a 'remixer', Michael Hutchinson's remix on Y.M.C.A to me is what a remix is all about: a drastic collection of unexpected changes that made a floor gasp with an "Oh My God" type of reaction. It is everything that is missing in the modern day mix.
Its 1980's contemporary might be "I Love My Radio" by Taffy, mixed by Freddy Bastone.
And with some knowledge of its history, Tom Moulton's mix on "Devils Gun" by CJ & Co, taking the end of the song and turning it into one of the most powerful intros in disco history that cemented an amazing song together.
Just my .02

Well, I'm gonna have to say the most memorable for me was It Takes Two.
I think the mix was done by 98.7 KISS in NYC. It was a Saturday afternoon and they mixed the **** out of that song. I remember not liking that song too much. Once I heard the mix, god damn! :icon_biggrin:
It seemed every car in the city including mine was pumpin' that jam! :icon_cool:
YouTube - rob base & dj e-z rock - It Takes Two - Old School Hip-Hop
Find them and destroy them!
I think one of the worst remixes is the Hot Tracks version of "Gloria" by Laura Branigan called Gloria in 3D.
best: Yazoo Situation dub mix
Worst: Shirley Lites Heat you up melt you down.
Why on earth is that dreadfull tomdrum running in 16th notes all the way through the song.
YouTube - Shirley Lites - "Heat You Up (Melt You Down) (Melt Down Mix)" (1983)
Best:
Debbie Jacobs - "Hot Hot (Give It All You Got)"
Good song to begin with. Just enough tweaking to freshen it up.
Worst:
Cheryl Lynn - "Got To Be Real"
The version where they take out the "Soo hoo, soo hoo, soo hoo."
Although if you're dancing with fun people, they'll join in and sing the missing part.
As for live club DJ's, my biggest complaint is when they tease you with a snippet of another song, then don't play the entire song later. Leaves you hanging.
"Because there's music in the air."
And in honor of Michael Jackson, this remix of In The Closet is a great example of enhancing a song without stripping away the original integrity. An all-time fave (and a sexy video to boot):
"Because there's music in the air."
to my personal tastes . . .
some favorite remixes I appreciate :
ABC - Look of love (USA remix - dub version)
Front 242 - Commando (remix)
Sharon Redd - Can you handle it (Shep Pettibone remix)
(horrible remixes / extended versions):
S.O.S. band - For your love (remix)
Foxy - Party boys (disconet)
Donna Summer - Try me, I know we can make it (ext)
George McCrae - Don't you feel my love (ext)
If you buy this record your life, will be better.
