    Bebu Silvetti passed way

Bebu Silvetti passed way last month of cancer (July/2003). Bebu Silvetti was born in Argentina but he lived in Spain. He recorded at Casablanca Records and composed the beautiful 'Spring Rain'. In 1997 Bebu Silvetti produced a C.D. for a brazilian vocalist called Roberto Carlos. Bebu Silvetti, the 'Magic Man' :( .

Thank you, Marcio, for sharing that news. I had no idea. Geez, this has not been a good summer for musicians and their fans. :(

Here's an article I found on Silvetti's passing:

Thanks Marcio & NickNack. I have always enjoyed his 2 Salsoul albums "World Without Words" and "Spring Rain." The title song of "Spring Rain" which peaked at #39 on the American Top 40, did the rare feat of entering, exiting, then re-entering the Top 40. I also have that song on a Salsoul collection double CD of various artists. It is disappointing also that I saw nothing of his passing in the media around here, even though monitoring it is part of my job. It is good The Miami Herald wrote a good story about it, though; I just printed it.
I did not know of his productions for others or anything he had done since the 70s. Does anyone know what other albums he released of his own, and what 12 inch singles?

Usagi-san, you may enjoy Silvetti's 1979 LP "Concert from The Stars", which includes a nice track called "Sun After The Rain".

The Maestro, Herbie, Celia, now Silvetti. Nicky is right, this summer has sucked for some of the musicians we have a special interest in. Thanks for getting the article up Nicky. I really feel for the kids to lose both parents in such a short span. :(

Well... I'm surprised. I didn't know Bebu Silvetti was born in Argentina. In fact, I don't remember reading any of his passing in the local papers.
The article says he left this country in 1965, which sounds fair early in his career, but believe me here the media always say something when someone from here "makes it" in any other country, an specially in the USA. I read stories about the "son of Argentines" Roland Orzábal (from Tears for Fears), the "Argentine" football player Trezeguet (in the French national team), and the Argentine designer Eugenio Zanetti, whose Oscar for "Restoration" was hailed here like a triumph for the ages. Poor Zanetti had to give 500 interviews, show his Hollywood home, etc. to people who a year earlier didn't even know who the hell he was.

Still, no Bebu stories around here. Maybe I should do something about it?

Thanx Nicky. I thought it couldn't be Herbie Hancock as I watched a TV documentary on him 3 weeks ago & he looked very well.

I completely agree that this summer hasn't been a very good summer for us music fans out there. But don't you find it kind of bizarre that also 3 great actors like Katharine Hephurn, Gregory Peck, and Bob Hope also passed away.

I was surprised not hearing anything on Silvetti's death till I saw it here, considering that he had done so much with other artists.

Spring Rain is definetly an awesome song.

I first read of Silvetti’s passing in my local paper and was surprised to read how busy he was producing major Latin recording stars all this years… I always loved “Spring Rain” but two other non disco favorites from him are off his “I love you” Lp, “Piano” and “Atmosphere”, this last two are beautiful composition I used in early dinner sets in some clubs, lots of inquiries from people wanting to know the artist’s name I remember…. He will be missed.

Sad to hear another great artist has died  . I wonder why so many great artists are dropping like flies in the last 10 years  ????? And a lot of them die before reaching 70!!!!!

Well I've got 2 copies of his "Spring Rain" LP and that album is fantastic. I first heard "Spring Rain" on Mastercuts Classic Salsoul Vol 2 CD.

Sorry to hear another great artist is not with us anymore

    SILVETTI :icon_cool::icon_cool::icon_cool:

Anyone else in LOVE with CONCERT FROM THE STARS .......
I'll admit to my ignorance of it until just recently ......

But WOW ....I think I like it even more than SPRING RAIN which is no also ran in of itself ...

CONCERT FTS .. works two moods at once:
the string sopped orchestra so sadly beautiful. French Horns! Timpani !!
Yet this becomes background when hidden behind the persistent marching of the drums and bass.

I 'm given to be saddened when listening to the arrangement
but the brighter spirit of the guitar work and snappy drums won't permit it .

    :icon_cool: LOVE IT.:icon_cool:

I hope this is a good youtube representation : the LP version is longer @ 9:17

(where is Bebu on this though .... since he plays piano /synths??)

    And then there's :

two minutes or so into this ......there's something familiar going on there ..... .....those flutes , those wah wahs ...those long held notes ....some sort of homage.... :icon_confused: :icon_confused: :icon_confused:

" Remicks, SHUT YOUR MOUTH! "

    "But .... I'm talkin' 'bout SHAFT . "

"Oh. THEN WE CAN DIG IT!" :icon_mrgreen:

That Concert From The Stars is nice. It sounds a bit like the verse section of All By Myself by Eric Carmen, who liberally borrowed from Rachmaninoff, so maybe Silvetti was inspired by the latter composer.

What did Silvetti do in the years between the Spring Rain and Concert From the Stars LPs? That's almost a 4 year gap of no disco LPs during disco's heyday. Was he producing other artists, and then decided to get back to making music under his own name?

Here's my fave cut from the LP

Maybe he was just busy raising a family ? :

SILVETTI LOST HIS WIFE SILVIA RIERA – WHO ALSO PASSED AWAY DUE TO RESPIRATORY LUNG CANCER COMPLICATIONS IN 2003 – AND LEAVES SIX CHILDREN: ANNA, SILVIA, CARINA, NATALIA, DAVID AND MELISSA

Is that what it reminds me of .....I think probably so .... same saddening progression :icon_sad:

-------- I listened again . I really think you hit it with that ....

4 years? Spring Rain came out in '76 & my German copy of the 'Concert From The Stars' LP says '78, so the gap was only 2 years surely?:icon_confused:

LOL!, yeah, now that I look at his discography, the gap wasn't that big. I was thinking of the Spring Rain 45, which was released in '75. Mystery solved. :)

Here is a youtube vid comparing the Carmen/Rachmaninoff comps, so you guys can hear how close Concert sounds

Bebu Silvetti also put out mor disco stuff for the Spanish market, including a so-so 1976 comp of discotised standards like Tico Tico. In 1978 he did a disco album credited to ZOOM, with the brilliant peak hour track "Space Police".
