I post this topic again in the hope that someone will recognise this song I have been searching for years...it's in a tape I recorded off the radio (Radio Cidade, Rio, Brazil). I think it was 1977 or 78, as the station started broadcasting in 77. But I suppose it could have been released in 76. Can't tell many words in this song... something about ' in New york, do the hustle, give it my feeling,...muscle...but I've got something...(etc)' then the chorus goes 'Disco(?)'. Maybe 'Disco Freak' or sounds like. It's male vocal, mainly male backing vocals, v. g. bass, funky guitar, keyboards, lots of percussion.
I really appreciate your help, this is driving me nuts...

I'd really appreciate it...this song has become an obssesion!
Thanks guys,
Denise
I just tried the link. It's still not working. The error message said, "Server Failure".
Thanks NickNack. My kids have gone to bed now, so I'm stuck! I daren't do anything on my own as I'd probably make it worse... still, it works when I try it, but I really don't understand much about it. I will try to sort it tomorrow. and I was hoping someone would put me out of my misery tonight...!
Thanks for trying anyway guys...
Denise.

Good Luck!
Denise,
I listened to the song. Wish I did know it because now I know I don't have it :( . Sounds like one of those Peter DiMilo productions (a la Erotic Drum Band) --- male vocals, high energy, great breaks --- very nice song. I think that chorus is "Disco Queen", which could be the title. I checked my bag of tricks, no such luck.
Somebody help us --- I WANT THIS RECORD! :D
Thanks, Sverre, sorry for delay in replying. I will try those, each day I am more determined to find this record - I will not give up! :) Fingers crossed...Hello...if you rightclick anc choose "save as" it works fine...*!*...I havent heard that song but two other forums that works very good when you have to identifyu songs is:

Nicknack, we are two people on a mission! Sorry for taking so long replying, I went to a retro party earlier and spoke to someone who said he knew the song and swears it's called "Disco Beat", but I agree with you that it sounds more like "Disco Queen" - anyway, I have already searched and actually bought some records from Gemm called "Disco Beat" and none of them is "the one", so I shall try "Disco Queen" - I will not rest until I find this record, and then I will have a party to celebrate, I think it's too good to miss :)
Thanks for your help!
Denise.
I did a search, and could be one of these,
Erotic Drum Band - pop pop shoo wah
HERNANDEZ,PATRIK - DISCO QUEEN
HOT CHOCOLATE - DISCO QUEEN
JABARA,PAUL - DISCO QUEEN
Goodluck.....Adam
You can skip Erotic Drum Band and Paul Jabara. They're not it. Damn, the style and sound of this song are so freaking familiar. It's driving me nuts.Originally Written by ada1984
Hi all,
I know for sure it's not by Hot Chocolate or Patrick Hernandez - so we're back to square one. But thanks for your help anyway, Adam.
However, I have found a track listed as 'Disco Queen' on Gemm by RUDY LOVE. Who is that, you may ask, well I didn't know either but found that this was a member of SLY & THE FAMILY STONE who formed his own group. The song was released in 78 - so it fits in with the info I have, as does the fact that it was by a professional who was in a well-established funky group. What also fits is that the record in question is up for sale for between 40 and 80 dollars - because it's rare!
Well I think this may be the one, please someone correct me if I'm wrong...
The problem is, there's no way of knowing until I buy this record but at that price I can't afford to gamble, after all I might be wrong!
I have searched on sites where you can hear a sample but couldn't find it anywhere.
Another problem is that I found no mention of this track or the artist in any Brazilian Disco/Radio websites.
So if anyone could offer more info about this obscure group, I'd be most grateful :D
Denise
Hi Denise,
Here's some background on Rudy Love and his group. I read up on them cause I saw that title on GEMM also. I don't know... the song is so Euro/Italo and these guys are from the midwest U.S. Not saying it can't happen but Witchita, Kansas, is a long way from the sound of "Disco Queen" (or whatever the title).
The link I had here doesn't work so if you go to AMG and search 'Rudy Love' you'll find it.
Just trying to help --- don't want you to blow your money on something you might not like. Besides, if you find it you've got to share the title with us. :D

Hi NickNack,
I know what you mean, I wouldn't blow that amount of money on it without knowing for sure anyway (maybe if it were a few dollars I'd gamble), this is why I welcome all info, after all I may well be completely wrong. Mind you, after my post last night I did one final search on Rudy Love's Disco Queen and found it in a 1978 American Nightclub playlist together with all the usual disco tracks.
Thanks for the site info, I'll have a look in a moment. :)
It may be that we're mistaken about the song's title, after all it could just as well be anything!
I have forwarded a copy of my tape to a record dealer in Brazil, he reckons he can find the track...if he does,I will try to get hold of it and of course I will share it with you all!
Watch this space! :D

Hi Denise,
I was able to download the Rudy Love - Disco queen in Soulseek and is not the title you are searching for. It is much more funky than your sample.
My guess would have been Gary's Gang from around 1978 but I don't have any of their early vinyl :-(
Karl
Thanks Karl :)Hi Denise,

I shall start searching on Gary's Gang...I hadn't thought of that! Thanks for taking the trouble of searching...I am hoping now that my friend in Brazil can find this track! :)
I will let everyone know when I find it!
Denise
Denise... could this be a track by Crown Heights Affair? They were big around that time, and released some other songs that featured the same kind of 'build' as this song - 'Dreaming a dream' and 'Dancin'. I am in the office right now so I can not listen to my comp CD, but perhaps you could check some of their songs. Here is Amazon UK's link:

Hi everyone,
Hi Maarten, thanks for your suggestion. I haven't found a site where I can listen to their samples though...'Dreaming a dream' and 'Dancin' are quite easy to find, but not the other tracks on their albums. :cry:Denise... could this be a track by Crown Heights Affair? Hi Karl, I haven't been able to find any of their tracks to listen to either. All I have on vinyl is a 12" of 'Keep on dancin"... :cry:Hi Denise,

Hi Denise,
I listened to both my Gary's Gang albums. It's not them. Hope your friend in Brazil comes through for you.
Denise, I am convinced it is Crown Heights Affair... just don"t know the track. I just listened to 2 albums I have from them but they do not have this track. But it is sooo like them that it must be them.
I have mailed the sample to a good friend of mine in Belgium, who also has a lot of records. Let's see... this is becoming a mission on this board now :P

Hi Maarten, you could be right...unfortunately I haven't got many tracks by them, so I don't know much about them. I hope your friend can recognise the track...I am getting so frustrated! Hi NickNack, that's another group struck off the list then! Thanks for this...maybe we will work out the identity of the artist by process of elimination! :)Hi Denise,
I listened to both my Gary's Gang albums. It's not them. Hope your friend in Brazil comes through for you.
I am awaiting a reply from my friend in Brazil, and I am getting so impatient!
Thanks all,
Denise
[me thinks] it sounds like something mix with the Crown Heights Affair's "Foxy Lady."
:o
Well, like Maarten, I listened to my two Crown Heights' lp's: Do It Your Way (1976) and Sure Shot (1980). Again, no luck. I wish I had more early albums as the sound was close. But, I still think it's a 'Euro' group or production, more Erotic Drum Band than Crown Heights Affair. I know the background vocal rips CHA's "Dancin'" and the phased, sizzling high hats are their style. But, the energy level on Den's track is up while CHA didn't normally go that far. The lead vocal doesn't sound like CHA to me either. I'd love to be wrong so I'd at least have a chance of getting my hands on this thing. :D Oh well, fingers crossed, waiting on Brazil and Belgium to respond.
Hi everyone, just a thought... is there any chance this track could be by GQ or maybe T Connection?
I am not as knowledgeable as you guys are, but earlier today I was listening to some of their stuff and they seem to have lots of similarities...what do you think... am I way off the mark?
Please let me know your views...whilst we wait for "The Answer"... :)
Denise
