    Madonna ripped off Tempest Trio IMO!

    I've recently discovered a record by Tempest Trio from 1980(one of Mike Theodore & Dennis Coffey's projects) called 'Starlight' (some of u guyz are probably familiar with this track) which I really like & couldn't help notice how familiar the lyrics are. There is a line that goes 'starlight, starbright, first star I see tonight'. I think we can see where Maddy got her 'inspiration' for 'Lucky Star' can't we? :roll: How many times has she ripped off people but never given any credit to them? Oh well, I s'pose nothing's truly original & it could always be a coincidence couldn't it? :-?

    Hi Steely,

    That sentence is taken from a children's rhyme/prayer:

    Starlight, starbright, first star I see tonight.
    Wish I may, wish I might,
    Make this wish come true tonight.
    <Child makes silent wish here :) , then says>
    Amen.

    I don't think we can crucify Madonna on this one. :D

    Sandra: hard to believe you didn't recognize where Madonna got the idea for the "Starlight, starbright" lyric! I seem to recall hearing that one in kindergarden! On a similar subject, I also recall a children's nursery rhyme being re-used in the vocal arrangement for Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam's "I Wonder If I Take You Home" but I can't quite remember which nursery rhyme it was. Maybe if someone listens to the song on YouTube you'll remember the rhyme.

    To be fair to Sandy, I am big on nursery rhymes - in that not only did I remember them all from when I was a child, I have two daughters who I recite them with. This particular nursery rhyme has never crossed my radar, so I assume it must be a popular one in the USA that hasn't really "crossed the pond".

    In fact, despite the fact I have had a copy of the Tempest Trio LP in my collection for a while, I had never made the lyric association with Madonna! From that LP check out "Last call for love" and "Love machine".

    Thanx for defending my honour darren! For a moment I thought I was following in George Michael's & Freddie Mercury's footsteps & losing all respect in the US!

    I actually like this version better than Madonna's. I hope she revisits some of her old funky bass sounds on the new cd.

    Have you heard this new cut (do they intentionally leak these nowadays?) What would you call the style? Girlie-Industrial-Lite? A no-frills Erotica? Something Madonna overheard in a German sex club?
