    The Hipsterfication Of America

Modern historians trace the term "hip" at least back to the Jazz Age. The word's origins are in dispute. Some believe it came from "hop," a street word for opium; or the hip flask carried by clandestine drinkers, or "hepi," an African word meaning "open-eyed awareness."
What's funny is that people who aren't hipsters generally express distaste for them and those who appear to be hipsters hate to be identified as such. Everybody hates hipsters ... especially hipsters.

I'm all for anything that brings together people from different socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation & ethnicity - I may not 'get' much of the fashion, music etc that young people are into nowadays, but I just love the all-embracing liberalism that's beome so prevelant in recent years. It's not all doom & gloom out there.

I tend to cringe myself..it is rampant here in Australia too, but I actually find it conforming more than anyone else, the sleeve tattoos, the cut off denim shorts, the trendy words and phrases...sorry not much of a fan I have to say. It all smacks of trying a little too hard in my opinion. Not all of course. Just many.
