Chaka's Tearin it Up!

Any other fans of this late disco/80's groove song...? I love it. Larry did the long remix I think....I'd love to know if this was big in clubs at the time. I think it's a forgotten Chaka classic.

Tearin' It Up got luke warm response in the states as far as radio goes... #48 on the Black Charts sales/airplay... Got To Be There was the hit single for that LP...

Personally, I tried to promote Pass It On, Sure Thing
with only luke warm response... I took it off my playlist after 3 weeks... :-? picky, picky, picky dancers :evil:

It got little response in the clubs also. I used to play around with "Slow Dancing", her duet with Rick James. You know me and slow bpm's. This wasn't 'sleaze', just a seriously strong low level dance track. I would agree with efunk that "Pass It On..." is the strongest dance piece on the lp.

BTW --- Did you notice how WB screwed up Larry's name for remix credits on the 12"? Larry Laven :roll: ... I'm sure someone knew that was not his name.

There was a little group of us at Aloha Records that did our best to push the twelve of this remix to the masses. We loved it but we were only semi successful since this record was usually always available at the store.

After "Got To Be There" was released as a single, the local Atlanta station played "Slow Dancing" as an album cut. This prompted me to buy the album, and I immediately adored "Tearing It Up" (not to mention "Slow Dancing"). Another stand-out dance-track was "Best In The West". I think that the radio station played this, too, as an album cut, although, "Tearing It Up" was the next single. I can see possibly why this failed as an edited radio single - the extended break was the best part!

I agree totally, Boogie Child. It's a very good album indeed and "Best In The West" is really a great track but I wonder if there are any other versions in existence?

My favorite on the album however, is definetely the "Be Bop Medley". Amazing how chaka can turn stuff like "Night In Tunesia" into a discofied jam and still keep the jazz feeling alive.
