2 great funksters added to my record collection!!!
Hi everyone. Last Wednesday I went down to Kiama with my mother and her friends to get away from Unanderra for the day and down in Kiama there's these really old row of 19th century shop buildings housing shops selling various things from crystals, to souvenirs to antiques to collectables/memorabilia. Anyhow I went into the memorabilia store and to the right was boxes of records of various categories. Anyhow I looked in the R&B/Soul box and there were a bunch of great soul/funk records of various sorts lot of them being Motown compilations. Anyhow I was **** broke that day so I couldn't buy much, but going through the records I came across a few that I REALLY wanted to buy:
Con Funk Shun - Secrets LP 1977
Hues Corporation - Love Corporation LP 1976 (I think that was the album title)
Bar-Kays - Flying High On Your Love LP 1977
Brothers Johnson - Look Out For #1 LP 1976
I could only buy two of them so I bought the Bar-Kays one for $7 and the Brothers Johnson one for $6. Mate, I was stoked to come across these in a costal town like Kiama as you mainly find funky stuff like this in groove record stores in metro cities like Sydney and Melbourne. The covers maybe a little worn but the records themselves are in top condition. One thing that surprised me about the Brother's Johnson record is that the track "Get The Funk Outta Ma Face" only goes for 2 1/2 minutes when I have the 6 minute version on 45. Anyhow I'm glad to have these added to my collection, I've listened to the Bar-Kays one so far and yet to listen to the Brothers Johnson one. As for the other records I'm gonna take another trip down to Kiama to buy them when I get these bloody bills outta the way. They won't go in a hurry anyway because a lot of the Kiama residents are probably into pop, rock'n'roll and country music hehehehe  .
Also another great pickup (I actually won this on UK EBAY) is a great British disco/funk record:
JALN Band - Movin' City High LP 1978
It's a fantastic record and has the song I was after for ages "Get Up (& Let Yourself Go)" which has a really cool disco bass sound in it. I first heard this song when watching a 1978 Top Of The Pops episode which had them performing this song, the clip was really cool, it had 3 guitartists in the clip along with the bassman, one of the guys was wearing an indian outfit too. JALN Band remind me of the Olympic Runners. GREAT group :D !
Cheers
