out of curiosity, how can you know the year the song was released but not have any other information about it? Just wondering.
Hi everybody,
Once again I need your help to identify a song from 70's. This track is from 1979 (or maybe 1980) but definitely not later. It`s a disco song, no idea if it's a band or a solo artist, but the Vocal is female (or a few female vocals).
I'm not really sure but I think the song was called something like "Wap Til A Wap" or "Wop Til A Wop" or "Woap Til A Woap". What I'm sure about is that you hear these words 8 or 9 times in a raw shortly after the song begins. It's a fast song, a little bit similar to the song "Trouble Maker" from "Munich Machine" (I'm only comparing the speed). The song itself sounded rather a little bit like a combination of "Dance it Free Style Rhythm" and "Fire", both from "Mantus". In the song "Dance it Free Style Rhythm" from "Mantus" you hear on and on something like a laser beam (I mean an electronic sound effect) and in the song I'm looking for, you hear the same instrument (or sound effect) right at the beginning and then after 3 seconds you hear a kind of Conga (Tumba) and then after 10 or 12 seconds or so you hear the vocal singing "Wop til a wop ..............". I remember that this track was a hit because I had it on an orginal tape with the title "Best of Disco Hits".
Does anyone have any idea. I have no doubt that some of you music experts have this record in your vinyl archive.
Any idea or suggestion is most welcome. Thanks you very much in advance.
Armin
out of curiosity, how can you know the year the song was released but not have any other information about it? Just wondering.
@Cory Ander
Well, the cassette I had (which contained this song) had the title "Smash Hits of 1979 & 1980) and other songs on that tape were also from 1979 or 1980 such as "D.I.S.C.O" from "Ottawan". So I'm pretty sure that the song I'm looking for is either from 1979 or 1980. If you have any idea, let me know. Thanks!
Armin
well, since you have the title and artist of another song on the same compilation, maybe try a google search of the compilations from that year that have that song on it and it may lead you to the song you're looking for. You may also try looking at Billboard's year end disco charts from that year.
Could it be this other Mantus track luvdisko?

SandraDee: Could it be this other Mantus track luvdisko?
@SandraDee
Hi, unfortunately this is not the one I'm searching for but I'm quite surprised how good you have interpreted my description because the Mantus song you have suggested is really close to what I'm searching for.
After reading you message I checked other Mantus songs as well and noticed that also the song "I'm so in love with you" is at some parts similar to the song I'm looking for.
I would not be surprised if I heard that the makers of "Mantus tracks" are the same guys who made the the song I'm looking for (or it's just an accident?). I hear the same "laser beam" sound in Mantus tracks very often.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your answer and I'd appreciate any other assumption of you and others who read this thread. Cheers!
Armin
Hi Luvdisko, as your thread seems to be pointing out simularities in Mantus tracks could it possible be this one?

fabbathanabba:Hi Luvdisko, as your thread seems to be pointing out simularities in Mantus tracks could it possible be this one?
@fabbathanabba
Hi and thanks a lot for your answer. Unfortunately this is not the one I'm looking for (that's faster than this one from Mantus and not necessarily so groovy & funky) ;-)
Should you have any other idea please let me know. Cheers!
Armin
Armin,
You're a bit inconsistent:
Album title: "Best of Disco Hits" And later: "Smash Hits of 1979 & 1980"
Next, you say that "Ottawan" was also on it 'so it must be '79 or '80' Well, you find Ottawan on 2011 compilations to, so that fact don't make it a '79 / '80 release....
What more was on that release?
Also, about the vocals: it was ONLY female?
PS Smash Hits was a pop magazine until 1984, so they popped in a free cassette??? (or something like that)
@__Pulse__
Hi and thanks for your attention to this thread. You are absolutely right. What I’ve written is confusing. Sorry about that. Here some more details: my brother bought the Tape with the title ”Smash Hits of 1979 & 1980” in Spring 1980 and later he gave it to me.
That cassette was published by a lable named “Melody Musico” and they released those years a raw of compilation tapes with the title “Smash Hits of …..”. The song I’m searching for was the first title on the A Side of that cassette, the second song was D.I.S.C.O from “Ottawan”, the first song on the B side was “Morning Music” by “Siren” and I only remember one more song on that tape which was “Midnight Dancing” by “Flower” from the LP “Heat”.
In the same month a cousin of mine stopped collecting Tapes and records and gave all his music related stuffs to me including 100 original tapes from different lables and I found (at that time) a cassette with the Logo of a regional record shop named “NORA” and the first song on the A side of that tape was (again) the song I’m looking for here, but the rest was from other artists like “Donna Summer” Hot Stuff and “Showman” from “New Paradise”. This Cassette had the title “Best of Disco Hits“ and it was Spring 1980 as I got that from my cousin) so these all indicate that the song can’t be older than 1980. Unfortunately I don’t remember the rest of the songs on that 2 tapes but I hope this information can be a little bit helpful.
To answer your other question, yes I believe it was all a female voice, actually a few females singing together at the beginning and at some parts you hear one female singing.
So, I hope I could answer your questions. Thanks again for your attention. Cheers!
Armin
Hi again. If this track has a 'laser' sound, by which I assume you mean a syndrum 'ping', check out the 'ping' thread as there are loads of tracks featuring that sound from '79/'80.![]()
...ya gotta beat the street......
@SandraDee
Oh this was a really great idea. I didn't know that there's a thread for "ping" (now I know the correct word for that sound). Unfortunately most of the links in that thread refer to videos that are either removed from the owner or the related YouTube account is closed/removed or the videos are blocked because of copy right matters and unfortunately in many cases the users who have located those links in that thread have not mentioned the title of the song or the artist’s name in the text which means if the video is not available anymore there is no way to know whom they are talking about so that I could search the Web for the video or the song ….. it’s a pity
Anyway I checked those videos/links which still are not “death” or deleted but the song I'm looking for was not among them (I admit I was pretty frustrated). There are also some songs mentioned in that thread (without a video link) which I’m trying to find on YouTube and other websites now, hopefully with success.
Anyway thanks again for your valuable advice. Any other suggestion or advice is most welcome. Cheers!
Armin
Armin,
That's an excellent point you made regarding typing out the artist's name and song title above the video so that if YouTube deletes the video, one still has the text reference to the song. I'll see if I can add this suggestion somewhere prominent so that other members may consider adding the text in their posts.

Good point Armin.
@Bernie: how 'bout a check in the repliers posting? "IF reply is one line and line starts with <video THEN error

Armin,
looking at the titles from it .....that BEST OF DISCO HITS tape you had .....was it like ....VOL. XXXII ????
this list from the PING thread is of all the laser-ping songs members have come up with SO FAR , whether the youtube connection to them still works or not.
Depending upon how badly you want to find this song , you could start at the top , determine the ones you don't know - listen to them one-by-one on youtube until you hopefully hit pay dirt.

@remicks
Hi remicks and THANKS A LOT for the tip and the long list of songs with ping pew.
No, unfortunately Erotic Drum Band's Pop Pop Shoo Wah is not the one I'm looking for but certainly a nice track !!
Yes, I was (and still am) in that thread with all those nice PING songs, SandraDee gave me the tip to check that thread (by the way thank you very much for cearting that thread, a wonderful idea) and Bernie was so kind and replaced many death links with new working links so that I could check many videos there (THANKS A LOT Bernie) and I'm still not quite finished with checking them .. who knows may be the song is really there ...
I have another small description for that song i#M LOOKING FOR : there are exactly 8 pings (pews) in a row at the beginning of the song, I mean that's the way the song beginns and after those 8 pings, and then the conga (tumba) for a few secons and then the vocal singing "Wap til a wap til a wap til a wap til a wap til a wap til a wap til a wap til a waaaaaaaaaap" and then another text ... which I can't remeber anymore.
To answer your other question, that "Best of Disco Hits" cassette had the Volume number 2020 (I know, a bit strang, but it was really 2020)
I`ve already checked 100s of videos on Youtube and there are still a few 1000 more to watch. I guess I have to quit my job to have more time for that. This is what the passion for (Disco) music does to us :-) Cheers!

Thank you SandraDee. Mama Rue is not the one I'm looking for but you are right, also Mama Rue begins with 8 pings. I should have mentioned that in the song I'm looking for the 8 pings come in a row with no other sound between the pings (I just added this information to my description). By the way, Mama Rue by Queen Samantha ist one of my all time favorite disco hits. Sooooo beautiful! Thanks again!
Cheers!
