    Campest hits, help needed

    Hi all,
I host a weekly pop quiz in my home town each Sunday and need suggestions for the 'Top 60 Campest hits of all time'. I do have a list of 30 records but all nbeed to be hit singles as I need to work out their chart points.

    Thanks in advance

Hmm. Well here are some that come to mind:

Divine: You Think You're A Man (top 20 pop in the UK)
    Mr Blobby song 1994
Bucks Fizz: Making Your Mind Up 1981
Pet Shop Boys: Go West 1993
    Fancy: Slice Me Nice 1985...

I'm sure many people could give you better suggestions than I could though.

Well, Davicillo ....assuming you mean hits in the UK .....I looked at all the UK #1's from mid-60s to mid-80s (just my preferred time range) ....and came up with these as "Campy" in my opinion. You may already have alot of these ...but who knows, 1 or 2 may not have occurred to ya .....if ya need further info as to why I might think they have camp sensibilities ....please inquire. Good luck with your project & program !!!

The original "Go West" is camp. The Pet Shop Boys' cover of it is not. It's actually quite sad in context.

Kid Creole & The Coconuts-The Sex Of It, made it to the charts and one that didn't which is real camp is He's Not Such A Bad Guy [After All] from the same group. Bete Midler's-Knight In Black Leather or Married Men, Julie Brown's-I like `Em Big & Stupid or The Homecomming Queen's Got A Gun.

"IT'S RAINING MEN" (Hallelujah!) - The Weather Girls (doesn't get much campier than this)
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

"COPACABANA" - Barry Manilow (campy to the max: Lola/showgirl/yellow feathers in her hair/ she would merengue & do the cha cha/Tony tended bar/they were in love who could ask for more?/enter Rico- he wore a diamond/ he called her over/Tony sailed across the bar/ punches flew/blood & a single gunshot/who shot who?)

sidebar: I was such a theater geek, I heard the line
"She lost her youth and she lost her Tony "
    as
"she lost her youth and she lost THE TONY"

to whom did she lose the Tony? Ethel Merman? Carol Channing? Mary Martin?
that's the way I remember it.

I'd definitely put The Shangri-Las' "Leader Of The Pack" in that list.

And Rosemary Clooney's "Hey There" ("are you talking to me?")
Dancin' helps relieve the pain, soothes your mind, makes you happy again

Just curious Davicillo : How exactly do you " host a weekly pop quiz in my home town each Sunday"

Do you like meet out on the public square??

"Hear ye hear ye, fellow citizens of West Sussex ! This week's pop quiz is: ____. " ??

    ???

for camp how about any number of Cher's seventies songs .....I'm thinking HALF BREED is a pretty good candidate :

oh wait - this one's even moreso!! especially with this cartoon representation!!

    LOL!!!

    Hello Remicks,

I hold it in a local pub, but as the website is worldwide, I thought people in California (apart from my 2 friends in Castro) wouldn't have heard of Worthing!! LOL!!

Like your style though! A bit difficult, we haven't a town square.

    sa

sad, really? why do you think that? I've never really liked either version to be honest with you but I appreciate it has a catchy feel to it. The 12" version of the VP song is much better than it's single form.
