Unhappy Is Italo disco the same as New Wave.

I ask this, because when I play Italo disco, sometimes
I will get that people say hey i like the New Wave songs
you have. Overall, I do not think Italo disco is New Wave.
There are songs that are simillar, and songs that are different
like futuristic space sounds that New Wave normally does not.

Curious, to what you guys think? More simillar or different?

Different. New Wave is an offshoot of rock. Italo is a dance genre.

to me, italo is sort of an off-shoot of the hi-nrg genre. because i first started hearing about italo after the nrg thing started to lose a little steam. there were all these italo boot mixes that started showing up around the mid eighties. new wave is mostly an industry term that describes danceable rock, synth-pop some more rhythmic punk tunes. almost all those new wave bands were punkers over in the u.k. before being proclaimed as the second coming over here in the states. really sad, with all these different labels and everyone has their own definition of what they mean.

Italo is actually rather close to the synth side of New Wave....think New Wave like Visage (Fade To Grey) or Human League for example. I think songs like Gazebo (I like Chopin), Raf (Self Control) or Savage (Only You) were actually close to New Wave. And in general early Italo was darker synth as opposed to the latter happier Hi-Nrg dance stuff. Listen to for example Dhuo - Walking.... Italo song that could be considered a synth New Wave track too.

but if you widen the term Italo, and include German acts like Silent Circle or Modern Talking, it is also somewhat similar to New Wave... though simpler and catchier.

Yes, there are songs that are simillar but I think Italo disco
is more synth disco than New Wave. I find for example Silent Circle,
Savage, Cliff Turner more disco than human league, Visage, Heaven 17.
How about Lasedance,Koto,Miko Mission, Albert One, Eddy Huntingon,
Fun Fun, Kano is very Italo and see no connection to New Wave .
I get you point, but the music overall is a type of disco
more than New Wave that is more rock/pop.
