Provocative? I am just honest :-)

    hi folks,

on saturday i was in my favorite club in my hometown. Thank god, the usual DJ was ill (he´s always playing the same mediocre playlist), so a different DJ was performing this Saturday. He was from Munich and he was playing not only the usual "house" and "classics" stuff, but:

"Let´s go round again" by AWB heated up the crowd and then something happend:
The notorious "Staying Alive" played, and everyone went extatic (so did I).

Let me tell you, that for most of the time i was like: "Umm, the BeeGees, well ..... " but on that great PA in that Club I just thought:
    "Wow, what a fantastic song!"
and the people probably thought that too, because everybody was going wild. The DJ reacted fast and played "Nights on Broadway".
Again the same: It was cool!

I know that a lot of people think of the BeeGees as some falsett-terrorists. But after that evening I listend to some old BeeGees records I heird from my parents, and well, I have to say: Jolly good songs. Not that bad.

I understand that many people are tired of the BeeGees- discosound. But in special moments, that sound works really well.

    I experienced such a moment.

    greetz, Alex

    Mmmmmm -
I had a similar moment not so long ago, in my local chip shop! The guys there play the radio pretty loud and 'You Should Be Dancin'' was on - it sounded tight and very funky!

In the mid '70s, one of my best mates was crazy about the disco Bee Gees and I just thought they were corny as hell - mainly because I'm not a great fan of falsetto vocals (actually, the brothers' tight-panted caterwauling was probably the root of my nonchalence).

Still, back to a month ago and me waiting for a kebab - it was hardly an epithany, but I'll probably never hear the 'Gees in the same way again...

Forrrce: Visions of the guys in The Full Monte in the unemployment benefit line, dancing to Hot Stuff suddenly sprang to mind. That was the only part of the film I really laughed at.
Gawd, there's gotta be a song lyric there somewhere.

    Bored out of my mind,
    Waiting for a Kebab,
    The 'Gees came on,
    Didn't send me to rehab,
What they did, they helped me unwind,
with their funky Should Be, to which I'd been blind,
    Dah dah dah dah.......

.............. I never was a poet or lyricist, but you get the drift.

When I first started posting here several years ago...BEE GEE BASHING was de rigueur. I sheepishily (yeah, I ws shy in the beginning!!!) once posted that I liked The Bee Gees (particularly "Jive Talkin'") and was roundly bashed. (Oh, wherefore art thou FantomASS, my nemesis???!!!)

Only Nicky came to my defense with a tale of Nicky Siano playing "Jive Talkin'" at The Gallery (?) and the crowd going wild. :D

Since then, more have praised the Brothers Gibb and the "they killed disco" mantra has subsided somewhat.

DJs say that if you wanna fill a dance floor...the one song you put on is "Stayin' Alive"...people profess to think it's cheese whiz...but they dance, dance, dance!!! :P
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

I remember people talking about Robbie Leslie sneaking the words "You should be dancin', yeah" in and out of an instrumental he was working. By time he let it go, 12 West was in an uproar! Some radio hits can not be ignored. 8)

I always confuse Bee Gees and Leo Sayer on the song "Easy To Love" by Leo Sayer. Great hit in Brazil.

    Well,

never count on me when it comes to criticize THE BEE GEES for their music or their vocals, because I think THE BEE GEES is one of the greatest pop groups EVER. Just think about the songs these guys WROTE - they have an amazing catalog of songs. They're great songwriters and they knew how to record a damn good track - their backing band played tight and funky rhythms behind their vocal harmonies. And they're great lyricists as well: WELL YOU CAN TELL BY THE WAY I WALK, I'M A WOMAN'S MAN, NO TIME TO TALK..." - come on this is a FANTASTIC way to begin a song 8) ! I'm not one of those who thinks that overplayed songs are BAD songs - we can get tired of hearing some songs sometimes, but a great song will always be great.

    zeca azevedo, I'm stayin' aliiiiiiiiiiiiive...
