Ah Remicks, but there truly is a "short" version of "Jump the Gun" by the Three Degrees as on this release:

The Three Degrees
JUMP THE GUN 1979
On the US Promo 12"
two versions are offered:
The A-side is notated on the label as both:
SHORT VERSION 8:03
and as :
Part One
Side Two Reads :
LONG VERSION 8:10
and as
Part Two
so
this song is either epic in length at sixteen minutes and thirteen seconds,
or it delivers a very strange concept of what short and long versions are about.
"Hey Harold , I don't think that song can hold them on the floor for eight minutes and ten seconds .... better offer an alternate version
and shave a good seven seconds off of it." (wide-eyed)
????
Anyone more educated about these two versions care to shed some light??
less and less sites like to share images these days {sad}
(go to discogs
http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=1585834
where the labels' images are very clear )

1. Jump The Gun 8:06
Side B:
1. Jump The Gun 3:56
2. Falling In Love Again 5:34
1. Jump The Gun 8:06
good grief , at 8: 06 ---- that must be the "medium" version!!!!
also
wondering why did the European pressings use on the b-side , FALLING IN LOVE AGAIN ??? ---a mostly unnoticed cut off their previous LP ??

I just found out about this promo 12" of one of my major favourites about a month ago on a disco blog and was majorly delighted! I've always been quite satisfied with that 6 minute cut but an additional two minutes can always be quite enjoyable...and then two different versions....double the fun!
The "short" version starts out the same as the album mix but adds 20 seconds of instrumental before each verse (nice!) then...after two small pings...the extended instrumental break starts at the 4:00 mark with at least a minute more added of that hot guitar singing all the way through. Oooh how I wished I had this version back when I was 18!
(uhhh...video for this was just posted today...)
The "long" version is a cool re-edit that sounds like a dub at the start. Vocals for the first verse don't start 'til the 3:15 mark and after the second verse and chorus, it's all instrumental after that. I wonder how many of these promos were made.

thank you very much dk for that run down .
I have no recollection of ever hearing that wonderful portion of the song you mention beginning at 4:05 ( and I believe I'd have remembered it if I had) Boy if that isn't begging to be mixed into Donna Summer's BAD GIRLS/HOT STUFF ..........
Also thank you for pointing out the subdued "pings" .....song now added to the PING list.
now I'll have to watch youtube to see if this " long" / "part two" version hopefully gets posted .....discokicks :
